What a great day we had on this tour! We booked this volcano tour at almost midnight last night and were not sure about getting up early for an 8hr trip. We are glad we did. Several waterfalls ( you get to hike behind a beautiful waterfall), a trip to the glacier and a crazy trip on the river bed make this a fun filled day. The highlight was a nice long hike through a canyon to another secluded waterfall - some fun climbing and crossing the river on foot to get to a secluded area with another waterfall.

Clint, our driver was a fun and interactive guide. He kept us busy and had a lot of interesting facts to share. His knowledge not only covers Iceland, it's history, trolls, elves and the eruptions... But politics and religion, too! All in good fun - it was a great day.

We did the E15 view after eruption, including two waterfalls and a tour to end of the Thorsmork park at the Stakkholtsgja canyon.
The bookimg process went smoothly, pickup on time, comfortable Toyata Landcruiser 4WD vehicle, and returned on time.
Our guide, Hlynur, was friendly, knowledgeable and full of interesting stories about the history, geology and culture of the places we saw. Our guide was a skilled and safe off-road driver. He accompanied us throughout the entire tour.
We would not hesitate to recommend Volcano Tours, Grindavik, to our friends.

I really wish I could give this tour a better rating because the people who run the company are so nice, however this is just really not a good value at all. The tour is fine, we had a nice enough day, however it is GROSSLY overpriced. The guide is not a guide at all, but really just a driver. We paid 28,900 kronas for what was basically a day in the back of a Toyota SUV with suspension problems (she ended up bruised and I ended up with a sore back). On top of that, the place they take you for a lunch break (which is not included in the cost) has an extremely small selection of very unappetizing food. The final straw for me was when they took us to the volcano visitor center to watch a movie and we had to pay for the movie ourselves.
While they do take you to some interesting places, there is absolutely no reason why the tour should cost this much. I am actually considering contacting the tourism bureau about the price gauging.

I just returned from a 5 day visit to Iceland, and I'm soo glad I booked this tour! First of all, booking it was easy, they promptly responded to all my e-mails and answered all my questions. No pre-payment and an on time pickup; family operated company with personal touches, wonderful guide filled with information, proud of his country and willing to share. Accomodating to the personal needs of others, and so many stops at hot springs, lava fields, all along the Reyklanes peninsula, a stop at a lava tube with and inside view and gear to wear, along with a coffee break at a very cool historical house in Grindavik, supplied with home baked pastries and cakes, home made by the wonderful woman behind this company, along with her company! She actuallly told stories to the other family in our group, captivating their children with her stories.
If you have any questions or doubts, please feel free to contact me, or them as well!
You can't do any better with a tour that shows you their fabulous country along with a wonderful family's touch.

After many excellent guided tours around various parts of the world we were disappointed by the lack of much real knowledge or interest demonstrated by the 26 year old young man who drove us around the 2 in 1 (Golden Circle and South Shore) tour, and also his preference to stay in the vehicle or move it from A to B for us instead of accompanying us around the various sites. In fact he only accompanied us once - up to the edge of the Solheimajokull glacier, to the ice cave, preferring to "have a nap" on our first waterfall stop. Of course, the owner (father of our driver we understand) or other employed guide of this company may be excellent, but we have no knowledge of this. I would recommend NOT doing the 2 in 1 tour in Winter if it means starting at 8.00 am, as we drove the first 2 hours in darkness and then stopped at 10.00 for coffee at a gas filling station. We returned to the same filling station for lunch - and, while OK for coffee, it would have been nice to have gone somewhere a bit more of interest/informative for lunch. The sites covered were good but a bit of a trek given the icy conditions and uncleared walkways (not the fault of the tour operator). This operator advertised supplying warm overalls if needed but it would have been more useful if they had provided light-weight crampons for putting over walking boots/shoes, particularly at Gullfoss/Golden Waterfall where the icy car-park and slippery walkways were lethal to walk on. We noticed one tour operator did this. We returned back at the hotel early before 5.00 pm and felt we should have started the tour at least an hour later, as the advertised duration of 10-12 hours was completed in under 9 hours - probably because there were only 4 of us. Look at the different prices too on this tour - different for the luxury jeep and 4WD mini-bus. Do not confuse the totally different Volcano Tours Grindavik with the Volcano House cafe and cinema in Reykjavik which was excellent (and we heard may start tours themselves).
