We've eaten in some very expensive restaurants, incl. a few Michelin stars, and the the Lava really surprised us. We were expecting reasonably good for and a stiff bill, and we got very good food and a stiff bill (18,600 ISK = about £98 for two incl. 10% tip)
But the main thing was the food was actually remarkably good. We ordered the Icelandic Gourmet menu - three courses for one of us and two courses for the other, plus some glasses of wine and some fizzy water. We'd ordered this menu to try some new things, and they were very well presented, extremely well structured and prepared, and sublime in taste. No regrets at all.

A great meal. One of us had slow cooked salmon starter and a rack of lamb for main. Both were cooked to perfection, with flavoursome and interesting accompaniments. The other had langoustine soup which was fantastic, followed by pan-fried haddock. This was also good but could have done with more root vegetables and less of the barley base. Friendly and accommodating service from a lovely manager and staff. Total bill around £50 each including wine. Thoroughly recommend.

I had the best Butternut Squash soup ever and an amazing vegetarian main course that I am going to try to make at home, but probably never master!!

We stayed at the Blue Lagoon Clinic and this is one of only a handful of restaurants in the vicinity (there's another within walking distance at the Northern Lights Inn and more a few minutes' drive away in Grindavik). Nevertheless, this was a treat on our first night in Iceland. A limited menu can be extended if you email the restaurant in advance - they were happy to provide items from the lunch menu to my friend (who eats neither fish nor lamb... in Iceland, I ask you!!!). I have never experience lamb so subtle and tender, said friend was equally pleased with the beef. Service is faultless but the prices reflect this - expensive even for Iceland. Still, just the once eh...?

Remember to visit the rooftop terrace for fantastic views of the Blue Lagoon complex and beyond.

Coming out of the water from hot springs, one thinks of relaxing. one goes to a restaurant dressed in a white bathrobe. you would be thrown out usual?
Then you get a five star menu and a fine selection of wine. As per usual in life your there, enjoy.... and the food did not disappoint. We enjoyed our entire stay there and to skip and go to the food bar is a mistake.
