The food was amazing. Two of us eat meat, and one of us is a vegetarian, and all three of us were surprisingly pleased with our meals. It's pricey, though, so be sure you're willing to splurge.

A visit to the Lava restaurant is a nice way to round up a trip to the Blue Lagoon. The restaurant is nicely located behind glass at the edge of the pool itself with a very nice view, particularly in the evening. The three course set meal we had was pretty good, using Icelandish specialties such as local fresh fish, lamb and bacalao dried fish. The fish I had was excellently prepared, if not a terribly inventive and exciting meal. When you have excellent fish prepared perfectly, overloading it with all kinds of fancy frills isn't always necessary so I deem the meal itself to be pretty good.

We opted for the included deal of two glasses of wine with the food. This turned out to a small carafe of wine twice to each person, each about two glasses worth rather than one. In reality the price we found acceptable for two glasses turned out to be four.

The service was, however, not up to par with the rest of the experience. I did not get the impression that the staff was very knowledgeable about the meals or the wine. When we were there, admittedly on a rather busy day in the summer season, service was also rather unattentive and slow. Despite assurances that they would make sure we would have time to catch our bus, we were apparently forgotten, and the just under two hours we had set aside for the meal turned out to be too little. We ended up having dessert served less than 10 minutes before the departure of our bus, and that was after we had asked them to hurry up.

All in all the food was pretty good, wine was perhaps not perfectly matched but in ample quantities, and the service was below par, at least on a pretty busy evening. Nevertheless, it is not a bad choice if you're at the Blue Lagoon at an appropriate time for dinner.

Well if you are spending the day at the BL and you have time, the LAVA restaurant is perfect. We had lunch here in our BL bathrobes and it was nice and cosy seeing as it was snowing/hailstoning/sunny outside. All of the windows are glass so you can see outside while you are eating and the roof of the restaurant has a great view over the lagoon.

We were there in March, I dont remember a buffet as we ordered from the menu. Food was good and the place is very elegant but you dont look out of place in your bathrobe.

It is a bit pricey but hey you will probably only go to the Blue Lagoon once if your life so why not make the most of it!

We chose Lava for our final Iceland dinner, after a day blissfully soaking in the Blue Lagoon. However, we didn't anticipate the European pacing of dinner (we had a 9pm appointment elsewhere, and went in to dinner at 7, thinking 90 minutes would be sufficient.) It became apparent one hour in, that this was a place to have a long, leisurely dinner, enjoying the excellent food & wine, and the other-worldly view of the steaming lagoon at dusk, right outside the windows. Even though we chose that night's 3-course preset dinner, we still had to rush, and eventually had to ask (before the entrees arrived) for our desserts to-go. What a pity---everything was quite delicious and artfully prepared and presented... amazing langostines! We probably should have chosen the bistro next door for a quicker meal, had we realized we didn't have adequate time, but I have no regrets about the delicious food we enjoyed at Lava---only that we had to rush due to our own timeframe. Give it at least 2.5 hours for dinner! (The chocolate ganache dessert, later back at the hotel, was sensational!)

The kids really enjoyed the restaurant sitting in their bathrobes and being able to pick and choose what they wanted to eat. The adults enjoyed the sushi and roast dishes, plus the atmosphere was lovely. Since the children were only half price and free, it became a very decent price for the meal. All food in Iceland is very expensive and this a highlight.
