On our way to the Highlands, we wanted to get a good diner without spending too much, we chose Minilik at Flúdir as we had read some very good reviews and did not know anything about Ethiopian food.
We tried 2 different dishes so we could discover more from the menu and we were so amazed by the flavors. We had a great culinary experience. I recommend the Minilik special : you get a huge plate with a little bit of about 10-15 samples.

The service is excellent, the owners so nice, she is from Ethiopia, he is Icelandic!

And if you are not in a hurry, you should definitely ask for a coffee, you will experience the traditional ceremony of preparing the coffee and the coffee is the best I had in Iceland.

Our trip to Iceland was not, in general, an amazing culinary experience... Let's just say, it's not a country you visit for gastronomic greatness! However, a meal at Minilik provided a very welcome foodie highlight, and a break from the omnipresent hot dogs. It's as good Ethiopian food as I've had anywhere, in fact it was delicious. The hosts were very welcoming (although we did have a little difficulty with the language barrier at times), and the Ethiopian decorations give it some personality. Definitely worth a stop if you are passing through Flúðir and fancy something different. The prices were very reasonable for Iceland as well.

It doesn't look much from the outside, but inside it is fresh and clean. The owners are very welcoming. The food is delicious, and the menu gives a good indication of the spiciness of the food. We had a fantastic meal, and it was excellent value. (Especially in a country where eating out can be expensive)

I have been to Minilik twice and both times had excellent food. It is the only Ethiopian restaurant in Iceland and a welcome break from the bland hamburgers and hot dogs usually found in restaurants outside of Reykjavík
The atmosphere is friendly and the place is decorated with Ethiopian objects. The place is very clean.
The food is reasonably priced and the portions are generous.

We stayed in Fludir for a few days in June and couldn't believe our luck when we stumbled across this lovely little Ethiopian restaurant - what a great find! Delicious food, friendly service and homely atmosphere made us come back for a second try and we were not disappointed. We managed to try almost everything on the menu - including Sambusas, Dabo Bawaze, Kitfo, Qey W'et. Yebeg Alicha, Miser W'et, Kik Aletcha - and would recommend it all. Even our fussy 8 year old loved it - we saw plenty of kids and adults enjoying the shared plates together, eating the injera with their hands (forks & knives can be ordered, but hands are more fun!). Take your time and also enjoy the coffee ceremony - the beans are roasted over flames in the middle of the room and it smells heavenly. We will definitely come back again one day!
