This was a weekend trip to help celebrate a birthday for a friend and myself with spouses. Travel from the Chicago area was via Amtrak and we visited the Lincoln Presidential Library Museum.
The Hotel is located within easy walking distance from the Amtrak station and not far from the Museum. There are numerous shops and restaurants / eateries in the area.
We found the décor of the Hotel to be of the retro style and nicely done. The included breakfast was very good with real scrambled eggs, well cooked bacon and sausage. The breakfast room was continuously attended and food replenished.
We had reserved our room online and requested an upper level room with a view, We were well pleased with a room on the 7th floor and a view over looking downtown. We were also treated to a free room upgrade to a suite. All of the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and genuinely intent on making our stay enjoyable.
My Wife and I plan to return to the area to explore more Lincoln Historical Sites and Route 66, the Mother Road. I'm sure we will be spending some more time at the State House Inn.

We recently stayed for 3 nights while my daughter was in the hospital having our first grandbaby. Jake K. was working the front desk and was absolutely amazing. I booked the first night online then when we realized we had to stay longer, he took excellent care of us!!! I would highly recommend this hotel. The beds were comfortable, lots of towels, the free breakfast was great, the staff was awesome and it's conveniently located close to the hospital and lots of other places downtown. If I'm ever in the Springfield, IL area again, this is where we will be staying!!!

We booked a one-night stay for a half-marathon, and the price and location were perfect for that. Our room was clean, and there were plenty of towels and even bath robes--something I'd never had in other hotels. The bed was very comfortable, and we slept well once we finally fell asleep.

The main issue was that the wall/door between the adjoining rooms was very thin, and I could clearly hear the conversation and TV in the other guestroom--which prompted us to keep our voices low. Traffic noise from the hallway was also very noticable. On top of that, our room was on the 1st floor next to a road, so car traffic was also present. I ultimately turned on the room fan to drown out the noise.

Bottom line, if you want a good stay here, ask for a room that's not adjoined to another (if possible) and not on the 1st floor. All other aspects of our stay were good.

Room tip: For a quieter stay, ask for a room that's not adjoined to another (if possible) and not on the 1st floor

We do apologize that you were not completely satisfied with your stay. We are glad to see your feedback as it will help us as a team when assigning guests to rooms when we are not as busy, we will avoid using the adjoining rooms and try and put guests that come in together in the adjoining room. Unfortunately the night you stayed we were sold out with the Marathon. We are happy to see that you enjoyed the amenities in the room and location. We have a great location as we were just down the road from the starting line.

Thank you

I come to this city on business and have stayed here several times. This is the best place to stay if you are visiting the state Capitol, as it is just a block away. For the reasonable room rate you get robes, a very comfortable bed and a full compliment of room amenities. The place is filled with mid-century furnishings and decor, which gives it an unexpected and interesting feel. Staff is first-rate all-around. Included breakfast is generous. Drink prices in the bar are irrationally inexpensive.
