“Quiet Stay with Comfortable Beds”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

This is an older property with a post modern decor, but the most comfortable beds I have slept on in a long time. The room decor looks old but it perfectly fine. There was no noise in the room ever. Location is ideal for walking to all of the Lincoln sights and parking was not a problem. The front desk staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast was plentiful but seating was a bit of a problem as the dining area was crowded and overflow seating was not well arranged. But if you are looking for a quiet stay in a great spot this hotel is as good as it gets.

Room Tip: Building is oriented north-south so the rooms on the east side will have early light from sunrise.

When I travel several things are very important to me and probably to you too.
1. A quiet room that I don't hear noise from other rooms or hallway.
2. A great bed, comfortable, and roomy. Thought I was at home, memory foam luxury bed.
3. Free Parking for my car.
4. Hot Breakfast included.
5. Clean, updated Hotel with friendly staff.
6. Great rates and location, not on Hotel row or near any highway noise
7. Air Conditioner was amazing! Quiet, Digital temperature set and controlled quiely thru central system.
No noisy box in the corner that is on or off. Did I say quiet??

This hotel is like a 5 star in most ways, they even have robes for you to put on in the bathroom.
They have remodeled recently in retro and the bathroom has beautiful granite counters and custom tile, It looks like HGTV has been here with the colors, tile and soaps, lotions, yummy, and linens, flufy bath towels and they give you 4 towels to start with so you don't have to call down for more. We did bring our own pillows so I can't say how their pillows are to sleep on.
2 things to note is the room is narrow and if some one is at the desk you have to move to let them thru to the other side. No big deal really. Kleenex is not soft, which surprized me since everything else is soo plush. Would definately stay here again, hated leaving and going on to our next location. I was definately spoiled by this hotel.

Very nice little hotel, the rooms are very nicely redone, the free breakfast buffett is probably one of the best free breakfasts I have gotten at any hotel I have ever stayed, only things I would say to make it five stars would be they still need to update their TV's and an extra pillow on the beds would be good as the 2 they provide are fancy but very small. All in all a great hotel for the money.

This was our third time staying at The State House Inn. It is our favorite hotel when traveling from St. Louis to Springfield.

The hotel is beautifully appointed with a 1960’s feel and furniture, and the staff has been nothing less than stellar for all three visits. When we checked in this past Sunday night, Kelly got us in and out in a matter of minutes…and upgraded our room to a suite (thanks, Kelly, that was unexpected but very much welcome!).

The rooms are clean, comfortable, and everything you’d expect. We love the big, fluffy robes, complimentary water, and excellent TV channel selections. The Internet service actually works and if you call downstairs for something, they usually have it.

The only complaint is the breakfast room. It is not large enough, nor are the stations set up to prevent lines from severely backing up. They could really use an improvement is this area, including some walk-away trays. With everything else being so perfect, it seems like tweaking the breakfast service could really go a long way towards making The State House the #1 hotel in Springfield…especially since I saw this same issue mentioned in many other reviews.

From a location perspective, the hotel is downtown, making it ideal for walking around. The only drawback is there is not much open late on Saturdays and Sundays…same complaint we’ve always had about Springfield. This, of course, cannot be attributed to The State House.

We’d definitely stay here again, especially in a suite! :-)

We walked in after 10 p,m. to find we were third in line to check in. But the clerk was friendly, professional, and courteous, and took care of customers efficiently, so we we in our room very shortly. We liked our sixth-floor room with its full-length window and thought it was updated and comfortable, We liked the sliding bathroom door, the updated bathroom, and the fact that there were many electrical outlets for charging devices. Another guest raved about the breakfast buffet, and while it was fine, it seemed pretty comparable to the average La Quinta, with a waffle maker, cereal, yogurt, and a few hot items like scrambled eggs, potatoes, and sausage. The guy cleaning up was friendly as well. We appreciated the free parking. The Lincoln Presdiential Museum is easily within walking distance and they were fine with us leaving our car in the hotel lot even after checkout time, so we got to skip a parking fee. We will defintely consider this hotel if we need to stay in Springfield again!

Room Tip: A room facing south or east woud have a better view of downtown.

Family of four with 11 and 8 yr old. We were in a 1 brdrm suite with king bed. The living room had a hard leather futon and we used a rollaway. The futon wasn't very comfortable for sleeping and the rollaway was small and very thin but my 8 yr old liked it because it felt small and cozy to her. Room had kind of a funny smell and my husband thought the toilet hadn't been cleaned very well from the previous guests. The breakfast was adequate but layout was not efficient and it was hard for the staff to keep up with the demand based on how many people were needing breakfast. Would recommend adding a staff member or two when the hotel is fully booked. But staff were very friendly even with the challenges. And the room was clean, price was good and location was short walk to capital building....so....adequate for 2 nights.

This hotel looked very "sterile" with an "out of date" décor when I first viewed it online. I booked it with low expectations. I was pleasantly surprised! Not only was it clean, but the staff was superb. EVERY staff member looked GENUINELY happy to see us, to serve us, to help us. They acted like WE were guests in their PERSONAL homes. They do not act like they are putting their time in to collect a paycheck. The beds were very comfortable, and I slept soundly, which for me is rare in a hotel. The breakfast was, on the surface, the typical "hot hotel breakfast". However, there were some small surprises there, too. The eggs were much better then you usually find in a buffet. There were waffle machines, which I usually ignore. HOWEVER, they also had real strawberries in their own juice and whipped cream, and I treated myself to a strawberry waffle. The décor is not up to date. I don't know if this is on purpose or not, since this building is on a historic registry dating from the 1960's. The carpet in the elevators is quite worn. There is no pool and not a lot of fancy frills. However, for a business traveler, or a family or couple that wants a good, clean hotel, a good night's sleep, with a decent meal, on-site bar, business center and so forth, it really is very very good.
