The hotel itself is very modern and they have great paintings everywhere. The rooms were so nice and just all the small charming things they do to the room are excellent. I would highly recommend staying here! Also the lady at the front desk was an older lady and she was hilarious we loved her!

We were on our way home to St. Louis and got caught in a snow storm. We decided to stop in Springfield IL at The State House Inn, We had stayed there last summer on a trip to Springfield and had a great experience. The staff was very courteous and friendly just as they were on our first visit. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Springfield.

Room Tip: The hotel is 7 stories. We were on the 6th floor and had a nice view of downtown.

We stayed at the State House Inn while visiting Springfield to see the Lincoln sites and the Frank Lloyd Wright Dana-Thomas house. The hotel was perfectly located for our visit. It is also within walking distance to some nice places to eat in downtown Springfield. We had a suite on the top floor with a fireplace, kitchen and a separate bedroom area. The decor was classic 1960s, but nicely done. The included breakfast was also great. The price was very reasonable. Couldn't have been happier.

Room Tip: As for a suite!

This hotel is well away from the strip along the freeways - it is very close to the downtown area. In fact, you can see the capitol just a block or 2 away. For us, this was great as we were walking distance to a wide variety of restaurants, to the Lincoln Home, to the Lincoln Presidential Museum, to the capitol building, and to the old capitol building. All of these sites are highly rated on Trip Advisor (for good reason) and we left our car in the lot and walked.

The breakfast tops the standard fare at a typical chain. We had eggs, sausage, bacon, yogurt, fruit, muffins, bagels, a waffle maker, and great service for clean up.

I also used the fitness center. There were free weights; a machine that you can target virtually anything, an exercise ball for stability, some benches, some cardio equipment, and music that can be turned up or down. Also... a TV where I took in some March Madness.

The place looks 50 years old from the outside, yet is clean and comfortable inside.

Room Tip: I stayed in the suite with my family - worked out well when we added a rollaway - better than a doub...

I agree with the previous review that the hotel from the outside has a decidedly 60's and hasn't been updated vibe. But the interior was fine, updated and clean. Staff was soooo friendly reminded me why I liked living in the midwest in a small town. The room were a bit small but tastefully appointed. I do think they should invest in flat screens, it would make the rooms feel bigger. But for $129, all in, who is to complain? Oh and the breakfast was very good Would stay there again.

Upon driving up to the property I was a little concerned about what awaited us inside. From the outside this property looks old and uninviting. However, once inside, it is a totally different vibe. The property is sleek and comfortable. The furnishings and lighting all are retro, but really nice. I was here for a conference, but I would not hesitate to stay here the next time I am in town. As other reviewers have noted the staff are really great and accommodating. The hotel is a short two - three minute walk to the capital. Great location.

We enjoyed our stay at the State House. Right across the street from the state capital. All of the employees were hard-working and extremely friendly. Our bed was plush and comfortable. Love the decor, especially the orange sofa in the corner. The shower was hot and the bathroom was clean, even with sold-out rooms the night before and the next evening. Breakfast was hot and with plenty of food. The ladies serving were especially cheerful and considerate. Our conference food was delicious and the servers were constantly collecting dishes. Thank you all for your hard work, it was a wonderful visit.
