For a getaway from Chicago--to do the Lincoln think, this was a delightful place to stay. The price also included a 2 hour evening wine and cheese break, AND breakfast--plus on return in evening, cooling fresh baked cookies. The only downside, were light bulbs that were out and not having WIFI (having wire connecting Internet in room though). The bed comfy, the jacuzzi in Wisteria Room excellent, with complimentary robes...a true mini vacation. And breakfast was fresh made and delicious.

Conveniently located near the Capitol and main attractions, the Inn at 835 was comfortable and the staff was most welcoming. Extras we enjoyed were wine and cheese at 5 pm; a "tuck-in" basket with delicious cookies and a weather forecast for the next day; and Eggs Benedict for breakfast prepared by the executive chef for the owners' catering business.

Oh sure, I should have been spending 2 weeks out West at 6 U.S. National Parks instead of 4 days in Springfield, Illinois, but when I was sidetracked by a retinal tear in my eye, and I couldn't make a journey that required 4 flights, 1 train ride, 4 different rental cars and 7 different hotels, I decided to stay close to home (St. Louis) and go to Springfield. The new Lincoln Museum was high on my list of places to see anyway. You would think that I would have been disappointed, but if you do, you haven't been to the Inn at 835.
If you read the other reviews, you'll see mentioned the lovely rooms, great breakfasts, wine and cheese in the evenings, and staff that make you feel you are at home ... or a better version of home, depending on how you live at home. You can walk to many local sites; with the Illinois seat of government here, there are wonderful restaurants for a town this size; and with a spa on site, you have possibilities beyond what many larger hotels in many other towns can offer.
It was moving to be able to see the gloves Lincoln had with him on his last night on earth, and to see his most famous words written in his own handwriting; but there are smaller historical sites to see in Springfield, and there is no better base of "operations" than 835.
Even though I made this trip solo, I want to return with friends and family to allow them to have this wonderful experience. Don't miss it if you are going to be in Springfield, or, like me, make it a special destination, regardless of where else you COULD be going.

The staff was very welcoming and friendly - quick to please. The rooms were very clean. The bathrooms were surprisely large for a B&B. The price was very inexpensive, especially when it included wine and cheese and breakfast. And how about this - they provide soda, and bottled water and only charge $.50. And they provide beer for $1.50. Amazing - right?

This was our first experience at a B&B. We are timeshare owners so we are used to top of the line accomodations. We had booked at a local hotel chain, but decided to try to the B&B. From making the reservations, our greeting upon arrival, the tour of the facilities, the wine and cheese each evening, the cleanliness of the unit (we stayed in the Lavender Suite), the friendliness of the staff, the awesome chef who prepared each breakfast that tasted superior to any hotel buffet, to our checkout..........kudos! We would never hestitate to stay here again and we highly recommend it!
