If you like historic homes you will love this place. The service was fantastic. Stayed in the Orchid Suite, it's decorated with really cool antique decor and furniture. This room is like an apartment. There is more than enough room for 4 adults. There are two large bedrooms. One bathroom that has a really nice spa tub with luxery bath items, including nice towels. Very comfortable beds and bedding. Lots of pillows. A long hall way separates the bedrooms from the living room. It's a very large living room. Lots of seating. Off the living room is the private covered balcony, it has a view of the parking lot and the streets in front of the Inn. Magazines and neat books in the room. DVD movies and board games available for guest use. Cookies are offered in the evening. This place has everything you could want. Breakfast was great too. I'm real picky about a room being clean, this place was spotless. It's obviouslyy well taken care of by the staff. It's the nicest B&B I've been in. A train goes through this part of the city throughout the day and night, you can hear it but it didn't bother us. The one way streets can make it tricky navigating around town so it's a good idea to have a map. I absolutely loved this place.

Like many others, we reserved the Orchid Suite, which was, perhaps, too much room for two, but on the other hand when is too much room ever a problem when traveling? Not for us. Wonderful sheets and pillows, very comfortable long sofa and deep reading chairs and an excellent selection of unusually high quality body products in bathroom telegraphed the message this B&B understands how to deliver comfort. The innkeeper was extremely attentive without being obsequious and made dinner reservations for us both nights (Sebastians is a wonderful restaurant) . An excellent full breakfast is served every morning. Again, a staff that is attentive without hovering. Highly recommended. And a terrific location--close to everything in downtown Springfield.

We went to Springfield for a baptism, and after checking the lackluster "hotel" options in the area, we opted for this boutique inn/bed & breakfast. A fine choice. Its very close to all the downtown tourist spots and easy to access from the highway. We had no trouble finding it. The main areas are lovely and our room was comfortable, very clean, and had nice pillows, linens and bath towels. There is a small tv with remote in the room, and a much larger flat-screen TV in the 3rd floor lounge that we could use if we wished. The wine & cheese reception was nice and we got a chance to meet some other travelers. I was also impressed with the "guest pantry" where you could get chips, a snack, bottled water or a soda for only FIFTY CENTS! It was a whopping dollar if you wanted a cold bottle of beer. It also had a shelf of free dvds you could watch in your room, and while we didn't take advantage of it, I thought that was a very nice touch. The breakfasts were good and the staff was very helpful and professional. We recommended Inn at 835 to our friends who reside in Springfield, as an option for any other out-of-town guests. We would return if we had the chance.

This large old home is full of history yet in pristine condition. The rooms are unique from each other but all are perfectly maintained. All the conveniences and comforts you could want in a B&B. Staff are friendly and accomodating. Complimentary breakfast is out of this world. We are making our third visit next month and can't wait :)

After reading other reviews regarding the Inn at 835 not being a true bed and breakfast, I disagree. After making a hobbie of scouting out various bed and breakfasts, I find that the Inn at 835 to be one of my favorites. When I look for a bed and breakfast, it has to meet the high standards of the 835 in order for me to book accomodations.
Our favorite suite is the Orchid Suite. True, you don't have the picture perfect view of the Capital; the private veranda offers other options such as quiet place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine with someone special. To me, that's more important than viewing the Capital building. I was impressed about having two separate bedrooms, as well as a large living area with separate veranda enterances. It is a large suite and well worth the money spent to reserve it.
The staff are kind, and have always went out of their way in order to make our stay special. They even carry a table with food, fresh flowers, and champagne upstairs to the suite for breakfast in the morning, if requested.
As far as the hint of a haunted inn, I assure you that nothing out of the ordinary has happened to us, not to mention that I'm not a believer of the paranormal to begin with.

Overall, the inn is very nice for accomodations. We stayed in the Orchid Suite - 2 bedrooms and a sitting area - very large and comfortable. The suite has a balcony overlooking the parking lot and supposedly the capital - it will when the leaves in the tree blocking the view fall - so a little deceptive advertising there but not a deal breaker. The room was clean and the staff even cleaned some personal silverware for us - nice touch. The food was good - but no choices which would have been nice (even one other option would be fine). We arrived on a Saturday night and there was a function in the hotel and the adjoining banquet hall. Luckily we were able to find a parking space - but the inn should mark off spots specific for guests. The inn is close to the Lincoln sites and a nice 10 block walk to the Lincoln Museum.
