“Memorable!”

After visiting many years ago, this monument to a great American is much better than I remembered. The guides did a great job explaining the story of what had happened and why some of the designs to the memorial were implemented. Great!

“Interesting place to visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

Went through the tomb and was able to view Lincoln's tombstone. Three of his four sons were buried there along with his wife. What I found most interesting is the Lincoln's lost three of their sons all before the age of 18. Two passed away before Mr Lincoln died and one after. His poor wife had suffered so much loss.....I can't even imagine. She must have been a strong woman. We wandered down behind the tomb and found the vault that they held Mr Lincoln in after he died until they could build the tomb. The cemetery is huge. One could easily get lost looking at all the stones.

“check website for open hours”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2013

the "inside" of the Lincoln Tomb is something you must see - for us, it was a fitting conclusion to a memorable day at the Lincoln home and Lincoln museum. Approaching the Lincoln Memorial at Oak Ridge Cemetery, I quickly realized it is the biggest and most magnificent cemetery monument I have ever seen, and going inside to the burial chamber was awesome. Be sure to plan your visit, so you arrive on days/hours when the burial chamber is open. check this website : www.lincolntomb.org, or Phone: 217.782-2717

“Lincoln family final resting place”

I always wanted to go, so I finally did. It was peaceful, but sad that this great man was just a few feet away. The guides knew a lot about him and his family. Going back in 2015 .

“Sobbering Visit”

Unfortunately, the exhibit inside the tomb was closed while I was there, but just to see the outside was worth it. It makes you reflect on the loss which our country felt at Lincoln's death. He was not popular, but was actually very controversal, during his time in office, but has been revered for his legacy after his death.
