The Old Luxemburg is an “Old Springfield” steakhouse in every sense. They’re always glad to see you. An honest place where honest folks can get an honest meal at honest prices. They don’t put on airs – the last major re-do was probably in 1947, and patrons and management both seem ok with that. You don’t need a tux, or even a tie – you can wear one if you want – but clean Levi’s and a decent Harley shirt will also do just fine. You won’t find a better filet or deep-fried lobster tail for miles, and the dry Roquefort salads and chive-cheese potatoes are incomparable.

This is an older restaurant with a long tradition of excellent food. I particularly enjoy their steaks, but other menu items are just as enjoyable.

"the Old Lux" as its affectionately known has been around awhile. Still family owned and operated, its one of Springfield's oldest continuously operated restaraunts. It is in an older neighborhood-but unlike many of the reviews suggest, not one of the worst. This area has recieved alot of investment from community businesses, and has alot of functional and great businesses like the old lux. They do have security in the parking lot.

The food generally falls into one of two catagories, steak and fried. This would include several steak options, fried chicken, fried seafood (including fried lobster tail-a specialty) and fried appetizers. They also have some broiled seafood options and grilled chicken, pork, etc.

Whats to love, well price for starters. My partner and I often joke we spend more money going to the grocery store than we would at the old lux. With steak and lobster specialsin the sub $15 range, it might not be a joke. The food is good, its not amazing, but the smallish menu mean high turnover and a certain expertise from the kitchen. The service is great. The owner/manager is on site, and the staff has been working here a long time. You will hear alot of first names being used in the dining room by the staff and patrons, many who have been coming here for decades. It is popular with older residents of Springfield, but more and more there seems to be young couples and families who have gotten wise to the solid food at great prices. They have a full bar (with sub-typical pricing there as well). The atmosphere is dated, but the retro neighborhood feel has probably come back in vogue, and it never feels dirty or unduly worn. It is popular earlier in the evening, and later diners may find an empty dining room, don't be dismayed though, its just an earlier than usual crowd.

After reading some of these reviews, I had to almost flip a coin to decide if I wanted to go here for my birthday. We were trying to find a nice, quiet, enjoyable and reasonable dining. Now, we are not two ole' fogies but, decided to go early because of the reviews about delays in being served. We were greeted by the owner who seated us with menu and immediately were greeted by the waitress. She was very sweet and talked to us. Could not have asked for better service. After taking our drink order she also took and submitted our meal. She waited a short while then brought our salads and rolls. The bus gentleman was very curtious about cleaning off our table. Our dinner plates came out in a timely manner and were delicious. We ordered the evening specials, Ribeye and shrimp..and Lobster Tail. Both were very nice. The ribeye was exceptional and cooked to request. When we left, the restaurant was packed full and ranged in age from early 40's on up. The manager thanked us and joked with us. We had not been there in "Centuries" and the place has not changed on the inside, except no more white linen table clothes....we will be going back again soon. Certainly enjoyed ourselves tonight.

There's security in the parking lot so don't worry about the neighborhood because the food is very good along with the service. Prices are reasonable.
