After reading some of these reviews, I had to almost flip a coin to decide if I wanted to go here for my birthday. We were trying to find a nice, quiet, enjoyable and reasonable dining. Now, we are not two ole' fogies but, decided to go early because of the reviews about delays in being served. We were greeted by the owner who seated us with menu and immediately were greeted by the waitress. She was very sweet and talked to us. Could not have asked for better service. After taking our drink order she also took and submitted our meal. She waited a short while then brought our salads and rolls. The bus gentleman was very curtious about cleaning off our table. Our dinner plates came out in a timely manner and were delicious. We ordered the evening specials, Ribeye and shrimp..and Lobster Tail. Both were very nice. The ribeye was exceptional and cooked to request. When we left, the restaurant was packed full and ranged in age from early 40's on up. The manager thanked us and joked with us. We had not been there in "Centuries" and the place has not changed on the inside, except no more white linen table clothes....we will be going back again soon. Certainly enjoyed ourselves tonight.

There's security in the parking lot so don't worry about the neighborhood because the food is very good along with the service. Prices are reasonable.

The Old Lux is not going to be filled with the young "hip" crowd of Springfield, but with the locals who are looking for consistent good food at good prices. On weekends you can have a large filet and shrimp or clams for under $18, along with a garden salad (you must try the house dressing--creamy garlic) and a choice of side. I recommend the baked potato with their own, for a small additional charge, "chive cheese sauce." That's how the locals do it. Take note, the Old Lux is not in the safest area of town, thus an off-duty patrol sits outside the restaurant at the parking lot across the street. We've been going to the Old Lux for years and this is the case and we always feel safe. A old time bar and cocktails are always available, too.
