Description: Established in 1884, Maldaner's Restaurant and Catering is one of Springfield's finest restaurants. If you have visited The Old State Capitol, Frank Lloyd Wright's Dana-Thomas House or the State Capitol, you can imagine the wonderful celebrations Maldaner's likely was a part of at the turn of the last century and to the present day. Today, under the guidance of Chef-Owner Michael Higgins, Maldaner's respects tradition while offering the best of contemporary American fine dining in our historical setting. Chef Higgins features seasonal local and regional ingredients influenced by Mediterranean composition and preparation. Heirloom vegetables, humanely raised meats and Slow Food all artistically prepared and presented. Welcome to Maldaner's in downtown Springfield. We hope you enjoy your visit each time you dine at Maldaner's.

The menu is creative and keeps current with the seasons. Small plates to share and a good wine list add to the informality. White linens and good service also make for a more special experience. You name it!

30 years ago it was an elegant little restaurant. Today it is a bit tired and worn. Maybe it's better at night. Nobody dresses well these days; so that's probably part of the come down. Dining music? The kitchen appears to have lost interest. What would it take to put a decent chop on the chicken for the chicken salad? Or add some chopped celery? Or some chopped pecans?

We had a nice evening meal at the sidewalk tables. No particularly memorable dishes, but the service was pleasant and food well prepared and tasty. I can certainly recommend it.

The food here was good and not just the common meat and potatoes variety that some here prefer. I had a wrap and it was very good. My friend had soup and desert, she enjoyed it very much. I think they do excellent soup (I sampled it.) The place was classy. I heard several people tolking about how good the bartender was. I talked to her and found her very personable. The lunch was reasonably priced. The waiter was professional and easy to deal with. They have outdoor seating but I am an indoor guy.
