Take your time in walking through the exhibit rooms. Spend some time in the "Hall of Whispers" and listen to he gossip, look at the cartoons, We don't see this in history books, Lincoln was not loved by all, at his time. The last room deserves a pause and a tear or two. Try to see New Salem and his home before your Museum/Library tour..

I was told that this museum was very special .. .and it WAS! Don't miss it. It is like taking a step into the Lincoln's personal lives. So very well done. And don't miss the movies ... they are NOT your regular run of the mill movies! We spent about 3 hours there. Didn't feel rushed with that and with kids probably would have done it a little quicker. Real history buffs might spend a bit longer, but I feel three hours was pretty typical for both movies and walking through all the exhibits.

Springfield, Illinois is Abraham Lincoln Country and the Museum and Library in the historic downtown area is a place to immerse oneself in the history of the immortal Abe.
Stunningly recreating the United States in the 1800's with every type of motion picture and special effects available. Yes, you were there at Fort Sumter and Gettysburg and finally Fords Theatre. You will return again and again.

Fun, educational and state of the technology. There are two sections: the early and presidential years. In both, you learn not only about Lincoln, but about the way of life during that time. The two show features were phenomenal, our favorite part of the whole experience.
