This is one of my favorite museums hands down. I have been to all of the Smithsonian's but I really like the Lincoln museum because of the mix of historical documents, interaction with Lincoln's life and insightful audio visual displays. It is really something to see the Gettysburg address in Lincoln's own hand. One of the greatest speeches ever given.

Can't say why it took so many years to finally get here even though I live in Illinois. After all the accolades, I was worried it would not live up to expectations, but it did! You can spend as much or as little time as you have. You could do an hour, or many more. The two multimedia presentations are not to be missed, nor the White House rooms. But the history is so well presented it really does come alive. And also good for kids. Just great! Tip: don't be overly concerned about the order in which you do things ... it all comes out in the end.

This is just so well done that you are going to want to spend the whole day. There is so much to read and enjoy. There are two movies and then two separate areas of his life to visit. There is also a changing exhibit in the Illinois Gallery. Now it is about medicine and the Civil War.

We loved this museum.

After enjoying a hassle free parking garage experience with my full sized van a block down the street from the Presidential Museum, I was ready to experience a fun filled day in Springfield, IL. My goal was the Lincoln Presidential Library but I had to walk past the Union Station to get there.
On the way I discovered near the museum The Blue Door Artist's Gallery run by Jan Boucher, which offers a variety of fine arts and crafts products. It oversees a team of more than 60 artisans. Then I walked in the The Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices State Historic Site and finally Tinsley's Dry Goods which is the area's largest collection of Lincoln busts, souvenirs, exclusive t-shirts with Illinois, Springfield and Lincoln themes. I was primed to be amazed at the Lincoln Presidential Museum.
I was not disappointed as I followed a path through Lincoln's life from his early days on through his time as a practicing lawyer, legislator, candidate and finally U. S. President. Lincoln's story is filled with defining moments and each is vividly presented in a most thoughtful and entertaining new way the whole family can understand and obsorb.
There is an original copy of the Gettysburg Address and other rare momentos and artifacts. Two types of modern storytelling techniques are employed very effectively. A movie, a few videos and the "Ghosts" presentation are included with admission and very well done. This attraction was the highlight of my three day trip to Springfield, IL and someday I might return with grandchildren to they can experience Lincoln this way too. This is another "must see" when you are in or near Springfield, IL.

This presidentatial library is one not to miss. Lots of artifacts and information on Lincoln's presidency. The 4 minute video showing the Civil War progress and casualties was fantastic. Allow a couple hours to see everything.
