“Superb over-view of much hated man”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2013

The Emancipation Proclamation and ObamaCare are on par with bringing greater good and sparking public disappointment.

Hard to say enough good things about this place!

It took from 9am until 3pm to see the museum. Skip the library unless you are a researcer. The Subway inside is as good as any and you will need food.

The story is big and you will be happy and tired when you are done.

The staff is largely volunteer and wonderful each enounter.

This is the most educational and exciting museum. There is so much history of our 16th President and you will learn about it here. The theatrics is outstanding.

“Lincoln Alive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2013

This is one of the better, more imaginative museums around - and I've been to lots of them. Taking a group of friends there on a Saturday I was wondering if I'd still feel the same after a couple of years away, and I'm happy to say I was.

The museum is broken into two trails, one essentially AL's life before the White House, and one based on the Civil War years. Both are excellent. The first deals with frontier life, slavery, courting Mary, his career as a successful lawyer, and the run for the presidency. A clever TV display imagines the 1860 race as it might have been conducted in the media age.

The other trail starts with dresses as worn by Mary Todd Lincoln and her social rivals, then turns to the hailstorm of bad press and negative cartoons that battered the 16th President while in office. An even-handed exploration of the war and the country's reaction to the Emancipation Proclamation is followed by a somber look at Lincoln's murder and funeral. Even young people came out at the end introspective and curious to learn more.

There are also two movies that are well above the standard you usually see in museums. You want to be sure see them, so wear your watch and make sure you're there on time.

Again, this is a great museum. When in Springfield, don't miss it.

This was my third visit to this Library & Museum. There is always something new to see. Very good! I especially liked the Ghosts of Lincoln. How do they do that??

“I loved this place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

Until recently I didn't know that much about Abraham Lincoln. I knew he had been shot and I knew he was involved in abolishing slavery but that was about it. Thanks to this wonderful museum I now a lot more. We were hear for about 3 hours and the time absolutely flew by. It is so well laid out and incredibly informative. The displays are pitched at just the right level between being too dumbed down and having too much information to take in. They are entertainingly and meticulously put together and some include very good live actors. The 15 minute show in one of the theatres that explains all about The Presidential Library is particularly well done with the best use Of holograms I've seen yet. At $12 a head this was probably the best value attraction I went to during my 3 weeks in the states and it has certainly encouraged me to learn more about this fascinating man.
