The gardens are a tree park. It features a lot of trails that go all over. Very nice place to take a quiet walk, to go for a jog or to view leaves for school. In February they tap the maples and demonstrate how they get the syrup. Its on the lake so you get water views, creeks, as well as a few small bridges.

“Hiking Lake Springfield”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2012 via mobile

My wife and I went to the garden on a hot July afternoon - but all the hiking we did really didn't cool us down any! Nice eastern style woods "garden" with well marked trails and nice features along the way. Many benches to rest on - and the general topography is flat...makes for some nice easy hikes!

“A gem”

We have hiked around these garden many times. We have even taken family pictures there. Grab a map, as it does get confusing at times. Great place to do geocaching too. We have found 3 there so far. Gift shop is lovely and they do many educational activities and functions worth attending

“Great for a Walk around Lake Springfield”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2012

We were expecting more flowers, when in reality this was more of a hiking destination. Lots of trails in the woods to choose that are clearly marked. Visitor center provides maps and you can't get lost. We took the loop that ran parallel to Lake Springfield and it was beautiful. If you're into taking a family hike, this is a good spot.

“A walk in the 100 acre woods”

2301 E Lake Drive Springfield, IL www.lmgnc.org 217-529-1111

The drive was very nice to get to the gardens. The gardens were not what I expected. But that is OK. It is a wooded area with nice trails throughout. The landscape represents what Abraham Lincoln would have known growing up. The plan was designed by Landscape architect Jens Jensen. There is a lovely pond, footbridges, interconnected trails and benches. You will see wild flowers and birds. Garden hours are daily sunrise to sunset. Free admission and parking.

They have a nature center, but it was closed when we arrived. Lincoln Memorial Garden is run by the Garden Clubs of Illinois.
