Only had a day in this city and spent more than half of it in this house talking with the highly knowledgeable docent. No better way to appreciate an author than to experience the surroundings that influenced him!

The Vachel Lindsay House in Springfield, IL is a beautifully restored home with some wonderful things to see. I was greatly impressed with the tour from the docent and as it's only a recommended donation, you can pay what you want. I highly recommend this house on your sights in Springfield, IL.

If you are "into" Vachel Lindsay this is the place to go, otherwise it is a nice home tour. The home is period and that makes it worth seeing, but it isn't really "exciting". The docents are great! They hold other events there, art shows, photo shows, and that makes it worth going!

This house will interest anyone who likes mid-western poetry in general. It is a modest house in the city.

My family and I really had not heard of Vachel Lindsay before touring his family home. We found out that he was a poet and a writer with very interesting taste in art for his era. Few items had actually been owned by the Lindsay family. Most of the items in the home had been purchased by the family that owned the home afterward.
