Gorgeous architecture, murals, ceilings. We made sure to go during a weekday when tours are given (which are free). We are doing a bucket list of state capitols and this is one of the prettiest we've seen.

We took the tour and I thought it was great! The capital building is absolutely beautiful, and definitely worth going inside! It was interesting to learn some about IL, and I liked that we got some cool pictures inside and outside of this gorgeous building!

The old saying that there are two things you don't want to see being made, sausage and law holds true here. Try and visit between January and the end of May when the Illinois General Assembly is in session you can watch committee and floor action which is fun to see. Ask the tour guides to show you where "Senator Obama" had his office. The place is stepped in history and stunning. And, the scenes with Sally Field in Legally Blonde II were filmed in the House Chamber. Wear walking shoes though, you will be walking a lot.

Since I work in this building I'm a little partial but the restoration done is nothing short of beautiful. If you take the tour, ask the tour guide if you can stop and see the Secretary of State's Office. This isn't a scheduled stop on the tour but if the Secretary is not in you might be able to get in. in some instances you might catch the Secretary himself in the hallway and he will invite you in himself and give you the personal tour. It is the largest (twice as big as the gov's) office and the most beautiful.
