Owner description: The only house Abraham Lincoln ever owned is the centerpiece of this four-block historic neighborhood. Lincoln and his family lived in the two-story house from 1844 until 1861, when their address changed to the White House.

The home seems like the Lincolns just left. The stories told by the Rangers and the easy way they encourage questions made this an excellent tour. (Like the Mary Lincoln supervised the addition of the second story to the home while Abraham was away on business) To stand in the room where they sat as a family to eat is mind boggling.

This is a must see if you are in Springfield. It only takes a couple of hours of you really take your time. Make sure to visit the front desk as soon as you arrive to get a free ticket to tour the house. While you wait for your tour, you can watch a short movie and walk around several other houses of the time. We had two young kids who enjoyed the tour as much as we did. Encourage your kids to ask questions! Kids always come up with the best questions.

The guide for my tour, Jenny, really knew her stuff, and was a real trooper to conduct the tour even though she was hoarse. She made the life of the Lincoln's come alive, and was very friendly and went a long way to include the smallest members of the tour. I could really tell that she enjoyed her work and the subject. She also gave me directions to the Lincoln Museum.

While many places are going through remodel we were still allowed to come in and learn. What a great place! The passion of the staff was amazing! You rarely see people who want you as a visitor to see it all, but to enjoy your time! in fact one of the nps employees, said let me take your camera and get both of you in the picture! they were wonderful and the movie was quite educational!

The park ranger who showed us the house was very knowledgeable and that made the tour more interesting. The house itself isn't that big compared to today's standards, but knowing that we were walking in the same areas that President Lincoln did was definitely an experience.
