“Very well done.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

We showed up to springfield in the midst of a record (18") March snow storm.

This snow closed the Lincoln home the day we intended to go as they shoveled out. However we changed our plans and came back the next day and are very glad we did.

Come early as the tours are given in a first come, first served fashion. The home is small so the tour groups are small. They have restored other homes in the are as well and taken down any non period structures. The Park service has done a nice job restoring a few blocks of Lincolns Springfield. Oh, and unlike many national parks, the FREE PRICE is great. Small charge to park.

“One of the USA's Premier Sites”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2013

The Lincoln Home was one of the premier stops during our Lincoln Weekend. A bonus for us was the fact that the entire neighborhood was restored. It is a National Historic Site and every tour I have ever taken at a site administered by the National Park Service has been top notch. The Visitor Center provides a good start to the tour with a good orientation film. However, this can actually be viewed either before or after the neighborhood tour. The tour requires tickets and the number of participants is limited for each time slot. Several Rangers take you through each stage of the Lincoln Home explaining each room and the significance it played in the Lincoln family life. The rest of the restored neighborhood extended one block in each direction. I recommend using the cell phone tour to explain each of the homes and lots that were in the Lincoln's neighborhood. There are two other neighborhood homes that are open allowing visitors to walk through. It is incredible that there is no fee for this tour (as per Robert Todd Lincoln's condition for turning the house over to the government). This is not only a must-see in Springfield, it is a must-see for all Americans. Lincoln's story is one that is emblematic of our history and is seminal to understanding who we are as a nation today.

“Lincoln Tour”

Very nice site. Despite being in the heart of the city, driving and parking is relatively easy. The site is open and allows pets on grounds, but not in buildings. Very good tour guides

“Don't Miss a walk through Lincoln's Home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2013

Lincoln's Home is the only National Historic Site in all of Illinois! It houses many of the original pieces of furniture that were present when Lincoln lived there. All original furniture is in "black". The tour is Guided and free. A self paid parking lot is close by. You will see Lincoln's bed, original chairs, sons' room, Mary Todd's dressing area etc. Don't miss this stop. Allow about an hour. There are other homes near by open also! A gem!!

“A Site All Americans Should Visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013

Well done U.S. Park Service. This is my fifth or sixth visit & a favorite National site. Loved the models showing the progressive remodeling and expanding of the home. The visitors center is great & has some unique books.
