Owner description: The only house Abraham Lincoln ever owned is the centerpiece of this four-block historic neighborhood. Lincoln and his family lived in the two-story house from 1844 until 1861, when their address changed to the White House.

Very interesting, informative, easy access. Lifelike wax figures, two movies to tell the in-depth story of Lincoln and his family, the historic information about the political scene during Lincoln's presidency. Many displays of the time period, the decorating of the day. Some examples of the dress of the day and just the period of time that Lincoln lived. The tragedies in Lincoln's life and the whole story from his childhood to his death at the hand of John Wilkes Booth.

Ranger Bill kept us entertained and well informed on this tour. 5 year old granddaugter kept remarking that she couldn't believe she was actually in Lincoln's home. Left us all with a great impression and new facts about Lincoln and his family.
The tour is free!

Go see how Lincoln lived in 1850... way cool! It's free and not really crowded on a Monday when we went in June.

We visited the Lincoln home site and were very impressed with the Visitors' Center, the film about LIncoln's life in Springfield and the tour through the home. It was most interesting to learn about Lincoln the lawyer and man prior to his election to the Presiddency.

Took the tour again (50 years later) and although interesting, just not quite the way I remembered it. The house was under renovation, maybe that was the negative, but on the positive side the guide was great and did his best to present the somewhat mondane facts in a most interesting way. After we snaked our way to the house, back on the complex, we looked at some of the other historic buildings on the street, but unfortunately they could only be viewed from the outside. Those that were open and turned into small museums, had nice exhibits but as in most cases, way to much to read in order to reap full benefit. On the one hand it's worthwhile to see in that it is part of our history, on the other hand though it's just another old house.
