Owner description: Painstakingly rebuilt after being disassembled in the 1960s, this Greek Revival masterpiece saw Lincoln serve as a lawyer and legislator. In 1858, Lincoln delivered his landmark "House Divided" speech in the Capitol's Representatives Hall.

We took our Girl Scout troop here while in Springfield. Our tour guide was great with our energetic girls' questions. They were excited to sit in some of the actual seats and hear the story. Great find on our trip to Springfield! Good Lincoln history.

If you can go here it is a great tour. We also went to the State Capitol and this one was way better. This place has more history than the new one it seemed to me.

We had a guide who thoroughly knew his topic. He was able to answer all our questions, clearly because he eats, sleeps, drinks and breathes history. He understood the time period (1840s - 1860s) so well that he could transport s back to it.
It's an elegant building, simply furnished.

And the price of the tours is right!

To imagine Abraham Lincoln arguing case after case in this very building...The original election banners and flags as well as furniture is a history buffs dream!

I ran through this building very quickly after touring the Lincoln Home and neighborhood (It’s about 4-5 blocks away). I was blown away by the restored legislative chambers. I did not have time to see it in depth, as I was parked at a meter. It’s really worth a special visit, though. They give tours. From the outside it looks modest (for a state capitol). It’s built out of an odd looking brown stone. But the inside is amazing. I loved the inventive staircase that is centered under the dome.
