Owner description: Painstakingly rebuilt after being disassembled in the 1960s, this Greek Revival masterpiece saw Lincoln serve as a lawyer and legislator. In 1858, Lincoln delivered his landmark "House Divided" speech in the Capitol's Representatives Hall.

It may not look like much from the outside, but the Old State Capitol is a very nice place to visit. The people who guide the tours and help manage the museum are very helpful and will answer any questions you may have.

This is well worth the visit. Take a step back in time and see what lfe was like in government 180 years ago

The website doesn't really do this place justice. It is free to enter (although they suggest donations) - and there is so much to look at inside! They also have staff dressed up in period clothing to answer questions, do tours, and provide information. I was quite surprised. It was as nice as many museums I have been in. One of the staff talked with my husband and I at length about the rebuilding process of the capitol. I had no idea and was amazing to hear how they used the original blueprints and original limestone to rebuild the entire place. Definitely recommend, and it doesn't take very long, an hour will do it!

I took my daughter on a tour of Springfield to the various Lincoln sites. This building is beautiful. We were not able to go on a tour but they told us to feel free to walk around and ask questions. There rooms are roped off but you can still get a good view of everything. There is the courtroom where Lincoln fought cases and gave speeches. Definately a must see!

We love the Old State Capitol. It is a beautiful building with terrific period actors completing tasks and happily explaining the old time activities as dress. Nice to be able to enjoy the architectural structure and explore. Very informative plaques explain what each room was used for and what the different artifacts are.

Went three different times between June 2012 and July 2013 and finally caught the guided tour the last time. I felt that it was not as good as exploring on out own.
