Owner description: Painstakingly rebuilt after being disassembled in the 1960s, this Greek Revival masterpiece saw Lincoln serve as a lawyer and legislator. In 1858, Lincoln delivered his landmark "House Divided" speech in the Capitol's Representatives Hall.

Came here with the wife and kids. We had a great time walking around in here. It was great learning how things were, and how they were set up. It was amazing

The Old State Capitol was filled with original artifacts from Lincoln's time; sitting in the chambers where Lincoln & his contemporaries worked on behalf of Illinois - it was a great opportunity.

This historic site is well preserved and the employees are dressed in period costume. We didn't take the time to join a tour, but recommend taking the tour.

While on a trip to see Lincoln sites in Springfield, we spent some time at the Old State Capitol State Historic Site. The building is actually a reconstruction, but I'm so glad that the citizens of Illinois made the effort to provide this historic site. The beautiful building is in the historic area of Springfield, and the Lincoln-Herndon Law Office is just across the street. A very good docent took the time to tell us about each room in the building and to point out pieces of memorabilia. I took photos of every room because it was all so interesting. Immersing ourselves in the Lincoln history, it was easy to imagine Lincoln walking into the old capitol building to conduct business.

Before or after your visit to the old state capitol, consider stopping for lunch at the Feed Store restaurant. It feels like a piece of history itself.

Springfield should be proud of preserving this important piece of both local and national history. You can almost feel Abe Lincoln walking around.
