“Incredible panoramic views and colors”
Reviewed July 1, 2017 for a stay in June 2017

Yeah...even in June when the Aurora Borealis is not happening, the sky at night here is just magnificent. "At night" of course is not accurate as there is no "night." So dinner is later and the urge to sleep is not there til very late. Too much to see! This house works well for 2 couples. The slight negatives: Kitchen can be bit cramped if 2 people try to collaborate on cooking. Also the dishwasher seemed to need to cycles to thoroughly clean the dishes (no problem, just had to learn that that wad true.) And the heat for the hot tub was really hard to control. Finally for my tastes the beds were too soft; probably old. But the house was great overall. The location was excellent for getting to other areas: centrally situated. We loved being there; the inconveniences were amusing more than anything else. And the owner was super friendly and accessible.

“Nice cabin, great location for this part of Iceland. Stunning views.”
Reviewed November 9, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

This is a well appointed cabin, two couples shared it and it worked well for us. We used it as a base camp to tour the attractions nearby. This allowed us to enjoy breakfasts here and prepare lunches for our days activities. We never cooked a dinner at the cabin. it is fully furnished with all necessary appliances, radios, TV,s internet. The views over the tidal basin in front is outstanding with the changes in the light across the meadows with the mountains in the background. Their are birds nesting int he cliffs behind the house. Hiking trails are within walking distance from the house. There is a nice hot tub on the porch but we did not use it. This area receives a lot of weekend traffic from Reykjavik so plan your activities around that if you can.

“Nice cabin great location, stunning views, but surprise charges after we left.”
Reviewed July 20, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We booked this cabin through trip advisor and everything was as expected. Well furnished plenty of room but hit with extra charges after the stay blamed on Trip Advisor? The owner Karl contacted me by Email that we had not been charged his summer rate of 180 Euros/ night plus a 90 euro cleaning charge . My receipt from TA shows we paid 180 EU per night but no mention of the cleaning charge? We enjoyed the cabin so I. Agreed to the cleaning charge being taken out of the 240 Euro deposit. He claimed that TA did not charge the 180 Euro but charged only 135 EU which was the winter rate . Wanted to charge us additional 135 EU for the difference. I looked at TA complaint form but unable to print form while in Iceland and will miss 14 day reporting deadline by time I get back. We had agreed to the 180 EU rate and the receipt says paid in full. There was no mention of 90 EU cleaning fee in the contract or on line. Also we were planning on departing at noon and were surprised when cleaners showed up at 11:00 am. Could find no mention of 11:00 am check out either in house book or on line information or correspondence. It is a nice cabin but do not like financial surprises. Was this TA's fault or the property owners? He also claimed that TA charges a fee which supposedly took some of the money we paid. Bookin # 27366174. I have emails confirming all this that went through TA and should viewable.

Management Response
Jul 22, 2016
I'm very pleased that you enjoyed your stay, but you should not be unhappy about paying the full price. As you say you had agreed to the rate, but in the end I had to compromise on a lower rate. The cleaning fee is clearly stated on the TA listing and quote. So I believe is TA's fee.
You are right about there not being a mention of checkout time in the inhouse info folder and that has now been amended.
I hope that regardlessof this your overall experience is positive

“Beautiful views, well equipped cottage”
Reviewed June 1, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

The cottage was well situated. Close to Borganes and all the facilities a small town provides. The cottage was lovely and warm and very well equipped. We had everything we needed for our 6 day stay. Karl kept in touch with through email and kept us up to date with road/tunnel closures. The view was beautiful from the cottage. Only a pity it was too cold for us to use the hot tub as we would have loved to try it out. Would thoroughly recommend this cottage to anyone.

“Wonderful tranquility”

We stayed here last year and all I can say is it was superb..
A well equipped base from which to explore South west Iceland. Set below a snow capped mountain overlooking the sea it was real heaven for someone like me who values peace and relaxation.
It's a place you need a car for and when we arrived the weather wasn't great with howling winds and lashing rain, I thought this would have a negative effect on this "wooden house" and we be awake all night waiting for the roof to blow away.
No such thing, not even a creek or a groan and so cosy and snug inside.
I will definitely return here it's a wonderful place and I imagine it to be heaven in the summer months for all the outdoors types.
Superb!! Wonderful hosts and very well worth it..

“Excellent winter break in Iceland”
Reviewed March 7, 2015 for a stay in February 2015

We stayed at this property in February 2015, with our 2 young children, aged 3 and 1. The property has 3 bedrooms, two of which are upstairs with a spacious toilet, and the third bedroom is a sofabed downstairs. The family shower-room is also downstairs, so it would be good if one guest had slightly more limited mobility. The shower was hot and powerful.

We were provided with a travel cot, and a stairgate was installed without us having to ask for it, which was a great boon. Also as it only had a shower, they left out a large baby bath, that even the 3 year old liked!

We had to find it in the dark, after the airline delayed us by about 1.5 hours, and we only missed the turning once, and we managed to find it from the descriptions sent by Karl. I would suggest taking a torch, just in case, as it was a little tricky to find the key place in the dark - though Karl is looking into this! The fastest way from the airport takes you through a toll tunnel costing 1,000 Kr.

The house was very comfortable, with a glorious view! The weather feels right on your door, and we had a couple of days of storms, and on one day, we didn't bother to leave the house, as it looked too horrendous outside! Borgarnes was really close, and we used the Bonus supermarket there for supplies - the cafe next door to Bonus is also very good!

We did the Golden Circle, and Karl's instructions took us over a lovely snowy landscape, which we would never have taken if Karl had not directed guests this way. We also did Snaefellsness, and Hraunfosser, all of which were a reasonable drive. We had a Kia Sportage as our hire car, which did the job nicely, and we had no problems getting up the drive, even in snow.

This was an excellent base, and I would definitely stay there again, maybe in summer next time!

“Great base for discovering Iceland”
Reviewed January 12, 2015 for a stay in January 2015

The house is well-equipped, clean and everything was in perfect working order.
The location is close enough to Reykjavik (one hour’s drive) to be a good base for exploring the country, though you still have the sensation of being in the wilderness (we were lucky enough to see a white-tailed eagle a few miles up the valley). I would definitely recommend the house to anyone wanting a peaceful base from which to explore Iceland.
