Nice food but a little expensive. Maybe the prices are higher due to the fact that there are not many restaurants in the area.

“Organic Farm to Table (and open late)”
Reviewed June 11, 2013 via mobile

As this listing is brand new on TripAdvisor (so honored to be the first to review), we learned about it in a guide we picked up at the visitor center in Borgarnes. The description was spot on and exactly what we were looking for: "An Icelandic home cuisine restaurant. Meals are cooked with fresh ingredients straight from the producers and organic vegetables from the farm..."

We were thrilled that it was still open when we arrived as we tried 2 other restaurants in the area that were closed (we came in at 7:30pm). I had the seafood special of the day which came with soup, salad, bread and potatoes for only 2,490kr -- I think that even included coffee, but I was too full from dinner to have any! The soup was the house specialty, creamy with mixed vegetables and a bit of curry. Delicious. The haddock was baked in a sauce that complemented it very nicely (and I am typically not a fan of sauces on my fish). And the salad... I have never had one so fresh tasting (and then I found out all of the vegetables were picked that morning, no wonder).

But the best part of the meal was the 20+ minute conversation we had with the chef/owner afterwards. We learned so much about life & culture in Western Iceland. It was during this time that we also learned that he loves cooking fish the most so be sure to order it! This welcoming and generous host is truly an ambassador of the Borgarfjörður region and our experience there far exceeded anything we had in Reykjavik. Not only do we highly recommend this restaurant when you're in the area exploring Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, but we recommend stopping in as many of the small towns in Iceland as you can to truly get a taste of Icelandic culture.

If you're having trouble finding it and have a GPS (our rented GPS had a hard time finding a lot of the business and place names we kept putting in), use these coordinates: N64 39.336 and W21 24.150. It has a red roof and looks like a mini market on the outside (there are pictures of food in the windows).
