Went on 3 November 2012 during the afternoon. Very quiet, no doubt due to time of year. Food fantastic, two of us had the horse, cooked medium, one had the lunch buffet - mentioned previously and one had the lobster tails. Friendly service. Highly recommended.

“871 +/- 2 Settlement Museum”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

Easy to miss if you're coming from the cathedral as it's around a corner that will put it at your back so tread carefully. It's worth any extra effort it takes to find it.

Hint: It's across the street from The Salvation Army building which is well signed and easy to spot.

One of the best historical displays we've seen anywhere. Plenty of detail for the serious historian but done in such a way that the accompanying casual visitor isn't overwhelmed. Staff is wonderfully helpful - explained carefully how to use the interactive exhibits.

It features the actual foundations of an ancient "long house", uncovered during the excavation for a new hotel that is now complete immediately above it. Yes, the museum is effectively in the hotel basement.

Only reason I didn't call it excellent was that one of the major inactive displays was being repaired though a crew was very busy puzzling through making it right.

Children marginally likely to enjoy so their absence perhaps enhanced the ability of adults to enjoy everything.

One of the best places in Iceland to eat and relax. Had the horse and it was superbe. Mussels as well, and the daily specials are good as well. Wine and coffee and just good good good!!!

“Really, really good”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

Went on the 15th September around lunchtime. One of us had the lunch buffet (1890 ISK) which consisted of a soup and bread to start, followed by a small selection of cold salads that included pasta with pesto, and a few other cold veg dishes. The salad looked very fresh and tasted good too! There was then a fresh fruit salad to finish it off. The chef's specials included a fish dish and a meat dish that on the day was horsemeat (4100 ISK). There was also a kids menu to choose from and in our case was pasta (520 ISK). The food was all beautifully presented and the best we've tasted in Iceland. They had free wifi which we used and very tempting looking desserts which albeit we did not try. If ever in the area again we would definitely re-visit. Restrooms were downstairs and are shared with the museum's next door.

“Disappointing food, took ages to serve”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

In our Lonely Planet book, it said the restaurant closed at 9pm. When we arrived at 8-ish, we were worried we were too late. Well, we needn't have worried. An hour and a half after ordering, we were still waiting. When the food was finally served (we all ordered lamb), the meat was too tough and chewy.
I admit we were a group of 7 which the cook might not have accounted for, but we were not the last ones to be served. There were two more tables of hungry looking people looking at us enviously when we started eating. According to the waitress, they had a new cook, and I do sympathise with the pressures of his job. Had the food been up to the standard, I wouldn't be writing this review - but alas, it was rather disappointing. Considering the prices at this restaurant are quite high, I have to say it was an uninspiring experience.
