“Staying here was such a treat!”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

This is a real working dairy farm and horse ranch, so do expect parts of it to look like that. We stayed in one of the private cabins and it was so nice! Spacious, well-appointed (it even had a drying rack for wet clothes), and nicely arranged. The private deck with your own hot tub was SUPER! These cabins are clearly popular and do show some wear, but nothing horrible. There isn't any grocery store anywhere nearby, so do bring everything you might need with you. We also hiked to Eldborg crater nearby and watched the milking. An excellent experience.

Room Tip: I can only comment on the cabins and all four seemed similar.

We arrived at the farm quite late in the evening but the owners were still very welcoming and had no problem in answering our questions.

The cabins were lovely and clean, with fantastic private patios with hot-tubs. Horse riding is available and there lots of lovely walks/treks in the area - Eldborg is on the farm's doorstep. They offer a discount on the price if you bring your own sleeping bag/bed linen and this made the place great value for money - we got a two bed cabin to ourselves for about 60 euro.

The only complaint that I had was that the cabin got very warm during the night, but then we had this issue all around Iceland and I think it's better to be too warm than too cold! Also, make sure that you eat prior to arrival as there are no restaurants/cafes in the vicinity

I went to this farm to escape from the city and try to see the Northern Lights. If this is your intention , this is the right place. The farm is very isolated and has no light pollution. It is also close to the beach and to the Eldborg volcano. However, go prepared for isolated days and pack up food and all you might need during your stay. The closest city is about 35km distant and there is only one bus the connects the closest stop to the farm (2km away) to the city (Borgarnes). If you are taking this bus, be aware that you will be able to return only on the following day. I didn't know of this isolation and did not pack up bare necessity items and food, and the farm does not offer meals. The farm owners are very nice people, they picked me up at the place where the bus dropped me off (it's not a proper stop, you should let the driver know that you'll get off at the farm ahead of time) and dropped me off at the stop when I was leaving the farm
