I can't fault the welcome that Veigar and his small team give you when you first walk in. They realy make you feel at home and offer you the benefit of local knowledge when exploring the many nearby attractions and sites of interest. The hotel itself is homely, the rooms basic but spotless. The food is incredible. They offer a northern lights wake up call too - I saw them three nights when I stayed there. They even have free wifi! Excellent cant rate it highly enough.

This is a great place to stay to see the Northern Lights! It's a relaxed, comfy, friendly place on the edge of the bay beside Borgarnes. Very easy to get there from Reykyavik. The owner and staff are lovely. The meals are delicious - cooked using fresh local ingredients.
We were lucky to see a great aurora display - you only had to step outside the dining room, everyone in the place stood and watched, sipping hot chocolate. It was a lovely experience and I wished we were staying longer. It would be a good base for hiking too - beautiful mountains just behind the hotel. I would definately go back, in summer or winter.

Room Tip: The rooms are motel-style, half face inland towards the mountain, the other half face the bay.

If I'm ever in Iceland again, I will make a point to return to Hotel Bru. The staff was friendly and helpful, and explained the Northern Lights phenomenon to us. (We didn't get to see them while at the Bru, but saw some slight ones the next night on our trip.) The rooms were great, beds soft and cozy, only minor complaint was my bed was literally right next to the heater and thought I'd be set on fire. The dinner--a seasonal seafood buffet--in the Bru restaurant was the best meal we had on the trip, easy. So delicious. And entirely affordable! After dinner, we chilled in the lobby and played games and read and wrote and overall it was a great evening. There isn't much to do in Borgarnes, so perhaps it is more of a transitory place to stop for a night, but you won't do better if you do.

The Hotel Bru is just outside Borganes, it is a modest hotel with small rooms, at least the one we got. It is very basic but good enough for a night stay after driving and hiking all day. The main lobby is very nice and cozy, the staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. The Chef makes a daily buffet that is very good. It may have been the best part of the of our stay. The food was really delicious, nicely presented and the chef was there. Even with such basic rooms, I actually loved this hotel and the view of Borganes is gorgeous. See the photos

Room Tip: The rooms outside will have an ocean view.

We stayed for one night in Bru hotel. The rooms (we had one with share toilet though you can get some with private facilities) were small and basic, but the bed was comfortable. The walls are thin and we had to tell our neighbours that they were too loud after 10pm, as we are light sleepers. But then they realized and it was not a problem.
We liked the location, the service and the dinner. It was fresh fish buffet and we loved it. Everyone was welcoming and attentive. I think the price is good for what you get.
The manager talked to us for a long time about aurora. It was not a good night for that. But he gave us a lot of info to check the next nights in the internet. They even have a wake up call and can wake you up in case of aurora... That is great if you dont need to be away all night waiting...

Nice hotel 2 miles outside town. Friendly staff and nice bar/restaurant. Room was small and walls were a bit thin as I could hear the people next door but very clean and bed was comfortable. Nice views across the bay to the town.

This is my opinion about it.
Rooms tiny. The noisy comes from other guests for lack of isolating. The ristorante service is very good. The breakfast was in the very continental way. Location is good. Staff very kinde.
