arrived at 2,30am and was shown the door to room 7 ( the rep just walked off and no reception) first site was a large room with 2 single beds and some old fashioned decor to another room with 2 single beds. Found the kitchen which was old fashion and vile with very little equipment for self catering. On discovering the bathroom, decided we would not be staying in room 7. Old, dirty, plastic buckets, bowls and dirty mops, cracked turqoise tiles a loo seat that didn't fit and just generally horrid.
Complained and got moved to room 10- modern very nice and bright and reasonable kitchen but 1 saucepan etc??

sheets never changed and towels changed day after arriving- terrible amount of mosquitos and air con costing 7 euro a day. No gardens as advertised but a lovely pool area.

Near super market and not far from a lovely harbour.

the place is surrounded by all inclusive hotels and you are kept awake by their music- one area right next to room 7 and 10 and very loud. Lots of dogs barking and cockerels

came back wirth 76 mossie bites...each

Loved sissi but not Zygos..sorry

Room Tip: do not have room 7 and 10 and 11 were most modern the other looked old fashioned and dark

My partner and I have just returned from a relaxing weeks stay at Zygos Apartments (Sep 2012).
Lovely small fishing village, great harbour views, apartments basic as expected for Greece but poor beaches.. details below..

Transfer time 30mins there (incl drop offs) 1hour back (incl pick ups)

*Apartments

Our apartment was on the ground floor and was huge, could sleep 4 (biggest we have had in Greece) Kitchen/Diner with 2 single beds as well as a double bedroom and seperate bathroom, table and chairs out the front under lime trees and another seating area out the bedroom doors.Apartments were basic as you would expect from Greece, hand held shower, basic cooking facilities, hard bed and uncomfortable pillow.

There is one toilet roll provided, once this runs out be prepared to buy your own. Bins were emptied twice in our weeks stay which was fine and beds changed once mid week.

We had a real problem with mosquitos at night whilst sleeping, they would wake us frequently and we were covered in bites. It might be a good idea to bring some insect repellent/candles along as they are quite costly in the local supermarkets. Having air con really helps as you can close up windows and doors which prevents them from coming in!
Air con is available for 7E a day

*Swimming pool

The pool is on the roof which ensures the sun is around all day and of course gets extremely hot! Plenty of sun beds but we always went down before 10am, after lunch there may not many.
There is a small pool bar which sells snacks, breakfasts and salads. I can not comment on the food as we did not eat there as we wanted what I would call a proper lunch at a reasonable cost, Pink Flamingo and Edem across the road are perfect for lunch and dinner for that matter. If you come out out of apartments and turn right, Edem is located 300m on your left and is well worth a visit- or two!

You are not allowed to eat or drink around the pool if it is not bought from the bar, a glass of coke will cost 2.50E which can work out expensive throughout the day. We bought large bottled water from the supermarket and froze half then filled the other half with more water so it stayed cold all day. This was a very cheap option and water seemed fine to take to the pool.

*Staff

Carol works in the poolbar during the day and is very friendly, greeted us when we went up to the pool the first morning and was always happy and smiley.

Ayva owns the apartments and you only really see her in the evenings, Ayva didn't seem particularly friendly at first but the last few days she said hello and came out to say goodbye when the coach arrived to take us back to the airport which I thought was nice.

*Location

The apartments are located on the road that leads into Sissi so there is some noise, however we did not lose sleep from this. We did find it hard to sleep from the music coming from the neighbouring hotel though, this tended to stop after 11pm.
The apartments are situated in a prime location, 2 mins from large supermarkets and several tavernas, a 5 min stroll will take you to Sissi Harbour Beach and a 10min walk will take you to the Harbour itself with plenty of lovely restaurants and bars.

30min drive will take you to Agios Nikolaos and Elounda where there are beautiful views of Spinalonga within the bay. There is a bus if you do not hire a car, but that only comes once a day between 9-9.15am

*Beaches

Sissi Harbour Beach (5min walk) small soft shingle but a very rocky beach. 7E for 2 sunbeds + Umbrella. We found here reasonably good for snorkelling as there were some fish (some which nip your ankles may I add!)

Boufos Beach (20min walk) sand/shingle. We walked past here but didn't stay as Kalimera Krit is a further 10min walk and looked better.

Kalimera Krit ( 30min walk) This is a public beach located near the Private Robinson Hotel. Please note this cannot be accessed by people with walking difficulties as you have to literally climb jagged rocks to get there as you cannnot walk through the hotel complex. Sandy beach, not good for snorkelling though as there are no fish. Steep price of 11E for 2 sunbeds+umbrella and the only food available is a hotdog 2.50E and the smallest soft drink ever at 2.50E- complete rip off and disapointing when you spend the whole day at the beach.

I would recommend if you have a car to look elsewhere for beaches as there are some gorgeous ones out there just not in Sissi unfortunately

*Restaurants

Edem (very cheap, huge portions, lots of complimentry extras i.e bread, fruit, ice cream and Rakki!!) and Pink Flamingo are great places to eat near the apartments
Plori, Mama Mia, Avra, Mikes Place are also lovely places to eat in the Harbour- you must try a Crepe in Plori (yum!)

All in all had a nice relaxing break, met some lovely people, enjoyed the views, local food and hospitality of Sissi in general. I am a beach lover and with this in mind I would probably not stay in Sissi again, this of course, is just my personal preference.

Hope this review has helped!

Also;
Please feed the local cats, even if it is just water! :)

Another year at Zygos and another great holiday experience. The people are always friendly and helpful and Eva is always available to help if you need it. BBQ is always fun filled and a good way to get to know other guests. Never a dull moment at Zygos and will continue to go there every year. The rooms are clean and the pool never too crowded to swim. My Thanks to Eva for another memorable year

Spent a week at Zygos during September 2011 and were pleasantly surprised by the size of the apartment - lounge with room divider to kitchenette (also single bed in lounge so although we were only 2 people plenty room to accommodate 3) reasonably well furnished although cooker, albeit useable, was way past its' sell by date!! Separate double bedroom with plenty storeage space and good sized shower room with decent depth shower tray & a shower curtain (often not the case in Greece!) - shower room & kitchen tiles rather outdated but what the heck that's no problem.
On arrival we were politely shown to our apartment by the Olympic rep. and then met there and warmly welcomed by Eva the owner. We found the apartment to be exceptionally clean & tidy but for the rest of our stay no cleaning was done other than rubbish bins emptied every other day. No linen change at all during our one week stay and towels changed just once.
There are no private balconies at Zygos but a communal terrace which surrounds the property and well sheltered - a bit too well sheltered really. However, the roof top pool area is an absolute sun-trap and the pool bar prices comparable to anywhere else in the village. BUT, the fencing around the pool area is not of the strongest and not very high and the poolside surround is very narrow and we couldn't help thinking that it was not really an ideal place for small children who may like to run & climb.
Eva & family organise a weekly BBQ and other events but it was very very quiet whilst we were there (almost season end) so nothing happening. Actually, we had been reliably informed by previous guests of Zygos that the bbq is not particularly good value for money - especially if you have a large appetite !!but of course we cannot comment from first hand experience on this.
Zygos is well situated with 2 supermarkets almost on the doorstep and about 10 minutes stroll from the beautiful Sissi harbour. Yes it is on a busy road and as reported by others there is inevitably traffic noise but as our bedroom was at the rear of the apartment we did not find it a problem and sleep was never interrupted by it.
We have visited Sissi before and will do so again when at which time would certainly consider once more staying at Zygos.

Room Tip: Ground floor apartments possibly get more light than upper floor. Roof top pool not really suitable...

We’ve just returned from a two-week stay at Zygos apartments. Our ground-floor apartment was basic, as we expected, but large, airy and clean, and the roof-top pool was fantastic and never crowded. The owner is very friendly and helpful, as is her lovely daughter, who our own daughter enjoyed getting to know. Since there are few apartments, and the place is family run, it has a really nice atmosphere and many of the guests go back time and again. The one downside was that our apartment (number 7) was very noisy in the evenings, since it backed onto the area where the big hotel next-door puts on its evening entertainment. There are some evening events at Zygos too—barbeques, karaoke, music and quizzes, but there’s no pressure to attend them if you’d rather do your own thing.

We have just returned today from our holiday at this hotel. Yes it is basic however the friendliness from Eva, Carol and many extended family more than makes up for this. The pool is great and the appartments are in a very safe, large and in a central part of Sissi. The nearby all inclusive hotel is great for a change of scenery as are all the other local hotels who are more than happy for you to use their facilities. The BBQ night is good too. All in all for the price they ask a great base for a family holiday.
