“Good hotel in good position”
Reviewed June 15, 2014

First time at this hotel, we booked this hotel due to the very positive reviews we read on this site and we were not dissapointed. the hotel is well positioned just away from the centre of Sisi next to a new church, all the staff at the hotel are very good, attentive without being over bearing.
During our stay it was my wifes birthday and the management left a complementry bottle of champaigne in our room which was a nice touch (can only assume they must of got the date from the passport)
The food was excellent with plenty of choice for evening meal and breakfast.
Can see why this hotel is rated number one.

Room Tip: We stayed overlooking the pool which was a good position, as it is next to a church be warned the be...

We stayed for 6 days in June in a Junior Suite which had the bedroom upstairs. The room, bathroom and balcony were all a nice size. Food was also generally good- a mixture of Greek and international food, always plenty of Greek salad, feta, tzatziki, olives etc. I never ordered anything from the egg station in the morning as there was always a long line - they don't seem to be very good at multitasking. Tip- if you want bacon, you have to ask for it to be cooked for you- would have been nice to have it as part of the buffet.

Location is in a cute village- with many bars and restaurants along the sea. There are no big or fantastic beaches around this area. The best one within walking distance is the beach shared with the Robinson Club which one must walk over a hill of rocks to get to- roughly 15 minutes walk from the hotel. This is a sand beach with very clear water. The big white sand beaches are either far east or west and would need a car to get to. This was a bit of a downside for me.

If staying here i would definitely recommend a car. We hired one at the airport and kept it the whole week, which gave us a lot of freedom to explore the surrounding areas. There are also a lot of rental cars and 4 wheelers available right around the hotel. Driving is not difficult and car hire was cheap (all though the cost of petrol is not!),- i couldn't really imagine staying only at the hotel or the walkable area for a week.

Its worth mentioning that this doesnt really seem to be a place for families- nearly everyone there was a couple, and Western European. Overall would recommend this hotel.

It was our second time here, and for a reason! The hotel is once against excellent on service, quality and comfort. The staff really are the best part of this hotel - they all are amazing, and do their best for you at all times, regardless. A special thanks to bar man Angello (great cocktails and chats), manager Nikos (keeps everything going smooth) and restaurant man Giorgos for his friendly and efficient service daily.

The hotel is great for couples and business travelers especially, the area is generally quiet but has some more vibrant areas down in Sissi central for cocktails / shopping and has some reasonable beaches near by. Not the best beaches, but they were being done up a bit this time round. However the the pool + sunbeds were great with cocktails.

The only downside is that the rooms we stayed in (suite) is the beds were two singles together, not a proper double/king bed. That is the only improvement I can think of, and I wish next time round there was a option for a full double/king bed.

Saying that, the maid service, and general cleanliness was top notch. Especially the maids, cleaning the rooms sometimes twice a day, with free tea and coffee on demand in your room 24/7. Free towels and sunbeds too.

This is the type of hotel if you ask, you will generally get it! We even asked to stay an extra night, and they were accommodating and even provided a small discount as our flights changed. The meals and breakfasts were great as usual - unlimited starters and fantastic mains and desserts.

So much to say, but all in all, a great stay once again. Well done Castello. Look forward to seeing you again in the future.

p.s: Add double/king beds to rooms or add as option, not two singles! (although they are comfortable).

Room Tip: Go for the suite, half board. Very worth it! Try and ask for a room away from the church if staying...

Recently returned from a 2 week break at this excellent hotel. If you are looking for somewhere to relax then this is the place for you. I cannot believe that this hotel can receive negative reviews. The staff are excellent every morning at breakfast and evening at dinner you are greeted with a smile and like a previous reviewer has said it doesn't take them long before they know what you like.

It is a very well run spotlessly clean hotel. The rooms are comfortable and with everything that you need. A nice touch was the basket of fruit, bottle of water and a bottle of wine in the room on arrival. Everyday you see the management team around the hotel. We particularly enjoyed the food - always well presented and enough choice to satisfy even the fussiest of eaters. I must mention the excellent sweets at dinner each evening that are prepared while you wait they were absolutely delicious. We too particularly enjoyed the set menu for the main course.

There is nothing negative I can find to say about this hotel and I wouldn't be afraid of recommending this hotel.

Well done to everyone at Castello for helping us to have such an enjoyable holiday We will be back.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the pool

just returned from two weeks in this fabulous hotel and very nice quiet fishing village of Sissi. Had a wonderful holiday. The staff without exception were attentive, courteous friendly but without being intrusive. They all knew who you were, got to know quite quickly what your preferences were for drinks etc. which is a nice change from larger hotels where you do not have the personal touch. The positive reviews of the staff does however reflect on an exceptional management team which is sometimes lacking in other hotels. We particularly enjoyed the set menu for the main course as quite often at buffets you can be tempted to pile your plate and then not particularly enjoy it. The option to supplement the main course with extras from the buffet is also a particularly good idea. On our last evening we were late down for dinner and a couple of things on the menu were finished. I jokingly said to the waiter i was not happy as i had been looking forward particularly to the mousaka. The manager came over apologised and gave us a free drink at the bar. This is the kind of service you rarely get. Cannot find anything negative to say about the hotel accommodation, staff, food and the village itself. Will be back

This 5* boutique hotel is situated in the pleasant seaside village of Sissi on the north east coast of Crete. The hotel is a short walk to the village centre where there is a picturesque tiny harbour overlooked by local tavernas and bars with a small main street containing the usual collection of bike/car rental offices, souvenir stores, jewellery shops, places offering excursions etc. It gives the impression of being an up and coming resort although in places it still looks somewhat down and heal. Nevertheless, it's not over crowded, over developed or overrun with tour buses and so in that respect it has a distinct advantage over most of the neighbouring resorts.

The hotel itself is modern and stylish with attractive well laid out communal area's and pleasant light and airy bedrooms. We had 2 adjoining (standard superior) rooms which were of a reasonable size and accommodated our family of 6 adequately. However, the rooms whilst comfortable enough are quite simple are not overly generous in size or overly (5*) luxurious in feel (TV only had one English channel and fridge barely kept anything cool but WiFi was very good.) The rooms do have a good size balcony though, which overlooks the pool and garden and the local church but there are no sea views to speak of.

The thing that really sets this hotel apart are the staff who could not have been more friendly, helpful, or attentive. Nothing is too much trouble and there seems a genuine desire by all the staff to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Meal times were always enjoyable. The restaurant has a nice ambience - smart (in the evening) but not too formal - and offers an extensive and varied buffet - both at breakfast and in the evening with just the main course ordered from a selection of 4 dishes on the menu. A vegetarian option was always on the menu which was tasty and well presented. Overall, we all very much enjoyed both the food and the service in the restaurant.

It's probably also worth noting that whilst the hotel is generally oriented towards adults/couples they were more than happy to accommodate our family of 6 (4 children including 10 month old baby). It's possibly not the best hotel to take kids if they enjoy running wild on holiday but provided due consideration is shown to other guests the children can enjoy helping themselves to second and third helpings of chocolate pancakes at breakfast and letting off steam playing in the swimming pool during the day.

The pool was very pleasant - a little cool initially but fine once you were in. Only grip with the pool and garden area was that I did find the constant sound of euro-pop clubbing Muzak irritating and largely out of keeping with the overall ambience of the hotel. I suspect it was not a coincidence that the first sun loungers to go in the morning we situated furthermost from the pool/bar area and the incessant Muzak.

Overall though we had a very enjoyable holiday and would not hesitate to recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms directly above bar area are a bit noisy when the evening entertainment is on - although entert...
