It is our last day of a seven day break at the Castello Boutique Hotel. While this is a hotel more aimed at adults, staff and other guests have been extremely accommodating of our 2 year old. The gardens are lush and plenty of space for our little one to run around without bothering anyone. There are two lovely pools - one inside and one out - which are very clean. It's so rare to find a hotel on trip advisor that doesn't have any real negative feedback but this one is exemplary. The food is on the whole very good though the only thing to say is that some of the food in the buffet is quite heavily salted but there is a wide selection so you can avoid the saltier dishes. The staff are absolutely fantastic always with a warm smile and demeanour. The rooms are also lovely, spacious and they are kept very clean by the chamber maids. Sissi is a quiet seaside town with a few shops, tavernas and a nice quiet atmosphere. There are plenty of beaches nearby only a cab ride away or if you wish to rent a car there are plenty of rental agencies in Sissi. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We stayed at this hotel for a week and had a fabulous holiday. The spa is sublime and the hotel is contemporary but homely The hotel staff were so accommodating and friendly enough. Such a relaxing place.

It was evident during our recent stay that this hotel has many faithful, returning clients. The reviews are further evidence of their satisfaction. We found lots to really like though, for some, it may not offer everything they are seeking from a luxury holiday hotel.

Best Thing (without any doubt)?
• Extremely helpful and genuinely friendly staff (without exception).

What Disappointed Us
• The concrete construction of the building and poor insulation means sound from other bedrooms is too easily audible and can be disturbing (e.g. doors slamming, voices and toilet flushes).
• The hotel’s general location set in an area that doesn’t offer attractive views of the sea or countryside (other than far distant hills) and with its garden and pool immediately next to a fairly noisy road.
• Meals were OK but, we felt, were definitely not up-to-scratch for this class of hotel. Starters for the evening meal were a buffet that included some unusual or strange pre-cooked choices that often appeared dry and over-cooked. Main courses usually a choice of 3 plus 1 vegetarian) were ‘served to table’ but many commented servings were small. Deserts were a bit ordinary and not a big selection. Cooked breakfast choices were also variable and, again, some were dry and over-cooked.
• It was surprising to find that parts of the garden used for sun-lounging and by pool-users was boggy to the point that shoes and clothes became wet and muddy (this was despite prolonged very dry, sunny weather).

What We Really Liked
• Welcome for our late arrival that included a prepared cold meal in our room.
• Overall, relaxed atmosphere.
• Hotel modern, smart and is kept spotlessly clean.
• Fairly smart dining atmosphere in evening with hotel (properly in our view) requiring men to wear long-trousers and shoes.
• Rooms have comfortable, large beds, provision for tea & coffee making, excellent fridges capable of holding 1 litre bottles, air-conditioning that not only works well but which can be adjusted and a built-in safe with no charges attached.
• Nice room balcony with discreet towel rail so that the hotel’s appearance from its garden remains smart.
• Plenty of sun loungers and (with only a couple of exceptions) hotel guests that do not make the early morning run to place towels on them!
• Attractive, clean pool and comfortable pool area with easy access to bar for refreshments.
• Very nice selection of bread in restaurant but see also below.

Finally. there are a couple of general points worth noting: this is definitely not a hotel for children; and access for those with limited mobility should be OK other than steps to front lobby from road (there is an alternative by a concrete pathway at the rear of the hotel).

Arriving in the middle of the night is never ideal but the moment we entered this gorgeous hotel, we were looked after. The staff really made this a welcoming and enjoyable stay, always keen to ensure we were satisfied. No need to put towels out on sunbeds as there is plenty of room either on the lawn or by the lovely pool. A few minutes walk and you are in the centre of Sissi with it's picturesque harbour and selection of cafes and tavernas and a few shops (our favourite was Ormos Café). Tried a few spa treatments and they were good. The hotel has only been open a couple of years and a really good standard. A hotel you would be happy going back to.

We returned this week from our second stay at this fabulous hotel. Our first holiday at the Castello Boutique Resort and Spa was in September 2012 and I was delighted to find that the high quality of services, food, rooms and overall decor had not fallen away in the intervening year which is always a risk when attempting to maintain high standards. Nikos and his team work so hard to ensure that everything runs smoothly and it always does. The staff put in serious hours to ensure the guests are comfortable and well served at all times and the service is always professional and friendly. We booked half board for both our week-long holidays. This is the only hotel we've stayed at where we've done this as we like to eat out and go to different places but the quality and range of food at both breakfast and dinner was very good, quite unlike any other hotel we've stayed at in Europe. As it goes, this is the only hotel that we have ever stayed in more than once! We go to this hotel to relax and be peaceful and we have been utterly successful in achieving both aims both times. Other highlights for me: a surprise gift of a chilled bottle of Prosecco left in our room for my husband for his birthday, top quality massages and facials, drinking delicious milkshakes made by the fabulous Angelo, swimming in the lovely, clean outdoor pool and that the hotel is located in the small, unspoiled village of Sissi. Sissi has a small range of places to eat and drink, supermarkets and shops with the usual tourist nick nacks. We'd recommend Ormo's coffee shop right on the seafront for excellent Illy coffee and service with a smile! It's not Malia or like some of the Canaries resorts we've been too and this is a very good thing! This hotel deserves its 5 star status. If you're a couple looking for somewhere to do nothing then this is the place to choose. One point to note is that there is a beautiful Greek Orthodox church right next to the hotel and early on weekend mornings (around 7am-ish) the bells are rung. The sound is amazing but it is loud and gave us a bit of a shock when we first stayed. Thanks everyone!

Room Tip: Not that the music played is noisy or obtrusive but we suggest you ask for a room away from the bar...

Stopped at the Castello Resort and Spa for 14 nights with wife (we are both 48 years old) and 18 year old daughter (daughter stopped seven nights due to other holiday commitments). The hotel is relatively new and although not quite 5* compared to some we have stopped in around the world, it is still superb. The staff make this more than a 5* hotel - nothing is too much trouble and they attend to your every need to make your holiday one of the best you have experienced. Tip: Ask for orange juice at breakfast which is freshly made otherwise cordial is only available.
Sissi is a small but very nice village for mature couples that do not want noisy bars and nightclubs with just the right amount of nice restaurants. Recommend the 'local' tavernas and especially those off the beaten track to experience real Cretan food. The rooms are very nice; ours a suite with private pool and daughter's a large double. Pool clean and large enough to exercise in with an adequate number of sun loungers available.
Devil is in the Detail: Perhaps e.g: periodically free water and fruit (water melon) should be offered to guests around the pool.
The two spa treatments we had were lovely and carried out in a professional manner however, although the indoor pool is free of charge to hotel guests, the sauna is only available at a cost. Usually gym, sauna and jacuzzi are all part of a complete work out.
The gym is small for a hotel of this rating and would certainly benefit from air conditioning.
If you are feeling energetic, we would recommend walking Samaria Gorge - it is truly breathtaking. Word of caution: not to be undertaken unless you are fit and wearing correct apparel / shoes, also the drive from Sissi is quite long (4 hours on a coach if memory serves me well)
If you scuba dive, would advise visiting the dive centre first to have a look at their equipment - some we looked at did not inspire confidence.

For a relaxing holiday for the discerning, mature couple without young children then this fulfils all the necessary criteria. Definitely recommend the hotel and the place.
We would like to convey our gratitude to the management and the staff for making this holiday the tonic that my wife and I needed. Keep up the excellent work - we hope to see you again.

Room Tip: We had a two tier corner suite with private pool There was enough room for two loungers, table and c...

Stayed at the Castello resort and spa for 11 nights recently. The hotel is first class and the staff really friendly, efficient and very helpful in all areas, from reception/bar/restaurant. Lovely room, very nice pool area, only problem when using the gym is that there is no air conditioning. Agree with all the recent reviews and will be returning at some stage. Would recommend the Ormus Cocktail bar for a snack/drinks. Lovely staff and owners who really look after you.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the pool area so cooler on an evening
