Review of Lincoln State Park

What is usually one of the highlights of our yearly camping excursions turned into an unpleasant experience. We were greeted with a $9.00 entry fee after already paying premium camping prices for a 3 night stay. If the indiana state parks dept. continues to hike their state park prices, people will be thriftier to go to a private campground. Also, private campgrounds don’t close their shower houses & still expect to charge full prices. Yes there was one open at the top of the hill, however no mention of the one being closed near our camper until we arrived. The DNR constantly were an irritation. we were too loud, DNR directed handicapped people park in overflow lot and walk down to campground. Really? Interrupted a harmless childrens activity which lasted one hour but used a PA system ( which they said needed a permit). this was done last year & they had no problem with it. DNR constantly appeared when unwanted but did nothing about the noise they made with their generator on Monday as we were trying to visit around our campfire. This is a beautiful park and the group we were with had 49 units. You would think the DNR would be a little more receptive to people that support & help with their salary.
If you have another option to view the beauty of autumn in Indiana, I would recommend it.
Really disappointed in what is usually a great weekend of fellowship with friends.

If you are thinking of visiting Lincoln State Park, be ready to have a DNR officer hovering over you questioning your every move. We had our annual soup cook out at the park this past weekend, 54 campers, all family and friends. Our group included every one from 3 months old to 94 years old. This group has been gathering for over 42 years, inviting everyone to join in on a pitch-in meal and a kettle of vegetable soup. We started to encounter problems when or friends and family coming in for just the pitch-in meal, where not aloud to drive in and drop off their food and coolers at the camp site we where all meeting at. The front gate instructed them they had to carry chairs, coolers, food and infants into the camp ground by foot. As far as our handicapped visitors each where questioned and then asked to show license and proof of their handicap, never had they been so humiliated. During the day we had a peddle tractor contest for the kids, which we openly invite all in the camp sit to participate. A DNR officer stood at the event, smoking his cigarette observing us, then told the group we had to quit down. It was quite odd that the leaf blowers the park employees where using on the top of the bathhouses at the same time kept making their loud annoying sound. During the evening hours, around the camp fire, a group of about 12 was sitting around the campfire talking, and the DNR came up and informed us that we needed to shut it down and go to bed. On Sunday all the group went home except 6 campers, at 10:45 am, the camp employes started a loud engine or pump and was going around shutting off our water and draining the water lines. Our quite camping experiance was shadowed by the loud sound of a pump running next to our campers. We had to call the office and tell them we would like to sit around the camp fire, and be able to talk with each other without yelling. Our campers were also still hooked up to water, at our paid camp site. DNR came by an informed us that they had to blow out the lines so they would not freeze and the camp site really did not have to provide water. Be warned, we have been going to this park for over 40 years and never have we been treated so rude and felt so harassed.

A long weekend with our son, daughter-in-law and 2 young grandkids. The weather made the weekend but the campground at Lincoln SP was very comfortable. It was packed but the facilities were clean and the hosts were very friendly. We'll plan to go back...

We stayed at Lincoln State Park over Labor Day weekend. We got in late, so had to set up our pop-up in the dark. The sites have lots of trees, so that made it hard. The restrooms are well kept and the beach was fun for the kids. Overall, a nice campground.

Spent a week in the campground and was very pleased. Very clean and well maintained. Great camp hosts. Like a lot of state parks, rig size might be an issue. We have a 40 foot 5er and had a great site but there are some sites we wouldn't be able to use. Ask for a large site when reserving. Holiday World & Lincoln's Boyhood Home are nearby. Restaurant choices are very limited in the immediate area as is Verizon Wireless service. My son and his family stayed in a cabin and I would describe the as rustic trending to hovel. A place to sleep but not much else; a step up from tent camping but not a big step. All-in-all, we will likely go back for another round of the water park at Holiday World.
