“Great Location - Poor Mgr Reception”
Reviewed August 10, 2010

This is your normal Embassy Suites which is very nice. The location is terrific by the "Old Market". The price is pretty steep but there are few alternatives. Be aware of the additional parking charge. Also, the Manager Reception, part of the draw to stay at the Embassy, was not a reception but a cocktail hour. There was no food except pretzels and peanuts. The morning breakfast was very good and very complete.

We chose this hotel due to its great location. Shopping and food/drinks are right across the street at the Old Market area.

Our room seemed to be updated....with a 1990's decor. Everything (except the bathroom) looked newer and clean. It just looked like Embassy Suites had updated with leftover wallpaper and furniture. The bathroom looked even older.

Registration was quick. The hotel was quiet during our stay.

We went to the zoo which is three miles down the street and easy to get to from the hotel.

Overall a fine stay.

We stayed here 3 nights. The location could not be better. Walk across the street and your literally a two minute walk from some of the best restaurants in the Old Market (French Cafe, Omaha Prime, Vivace, Stokes, etc). The rooms were very clean. Two big flat screen TV's in the room. The front desk staff were very helpful. You can do self server parking for $8 a night or valet for more (Don't remember how much). The self serve parking lot was easily accessible and huge. The hotel restaurant is not very good, but with so many excellent restaurants so close, didn't really matter. We travel to the Old Market every year and usually stay at the Hilton by the Qwest Center, but it was booked. This was an excellent alternative.

At the last minute we decided to spend a couple days at the College World Series which is held in Omaha each June. The Embassy Suites Old Market suited our needs perfectly. This hotel is located next to a trendy area that has been revitalized with restaurants, shops, etc. yet it is very quiet. Our suite was typical of Embassy Suites, same layout with the living room featuring a pullout sofa bed and round breakfast type table. A refrigerator and microwave, standard for this chain, were conveniences we appreciated. The bedroom contained a comfortable king sized bed and the heavy blackout curtains allowed us to avoid rising with the sun in the morning. The line for the cooked to order breakfast was fairly long but it moved quicker than we have seen at other Embassys as there were two cooks on duty, both with a good spirit about their jobs. The lobby was identical to the Embassy Suites in Tampa where I often stay on business which made me feel at home. Ample gated parking was located right behind the hotel. The hotel's courtesy van transported us to and from Rosenblatt Stadium for the games anytime we wanted which saved much hassle and expense. I strongly recommend this hotel as well as the College World Series.

I spent five days at the Embassy Suites Omaha, Old Market over Memorial Day 2010. I was there with 30 teachers and students (as well as a packed hotel of the same).

The Good:
(1) Staff. Great! Went out of there way time and time again to make the stay enjoyable. Front desk staff always pleasant and helpful. Parking guys always greeted everyone with a hello. Breakfast staff kept things well stocked and hot. The guys that make the pancakes and eggs to order are amazing to watch.

(2) The rooms have been updated. I had two flat panel TV's in my suite. The towels were good. The bed was OK, but could have used a new mattress. The temperture of the room was ideal.

(3) The location is EXCEPTIONAL. THe old market is the best part of town and it is right across the street from the Embassy. Forget about the places down 10th street and closer to the Quest, the Embassy is the best bang for your buck and the short walk down the street is a good trade for access to the market.

(4) Lobby is exceptionally maintained. Well done.

The Not Good:

(1) Hotels (and not just this one) continue to think charging for internet access makes sense. OK, its an easy way to draw out some extra dollars during my stay, but you are already hitting me up for parking. The internet should be free.

OVERALL; GREAT PLACE TO STAY!

I have a daughter at Creighton, and I've long been looking for the right place to stay when visiting. This place is it, hands down. It is directly adjacent to the Old Market; and while I can't claim to be an Omaha expert after 4 visits, the Old Market seems like the best place for shopping, dining, hanging, etc. And it's a very short drive to Creighton, or just about anyplace else in the city center. Everyplace else we've stayed (including the Doubletree) is in a neighborhood that feels dead and deserted at night, which is no fun.

The hotel is, by and large, pretty cool. A large and elaborate sky-lit lobby, with a bar, a restaurant (which I haven't tried), a mini-Starbucks, sort of a koi-pond thing. A very decent-sized indoor pool and hot tub, which can be great if you're traveling with younger kids. The suites are spacious, and unlike some "suite" hotels, they're really suites, with bedrooms separate from the living area. As others have noted, they're not super-updated (it's become funny to see square-shaped tube TVs!), but they're clean and fine, with good beds, beddings and towels.

There's a better-than-average free breakfast. They charge for wireless internet, which drives me crazy. I'd rather pay an extra 20 bucks for the room then get nickel-and-dimed for ten bucks to use the internet.

So I've stayed at this hotel about a dozen times. The service here is excellent and the location can not be beat. The rooms are old and pretty clean but need to be renovated. The complimentary breakfast is amazing, the restaurant int he hotel is surprisingly good, and the managers reception with free drinks is a bonus.
