Downtown Omaha has many newer properties that are providing tough competition for this Doubletree. While they're making improvements, it does suffer from age. The parking situation is a little odd, with a brief but convoluted outdoor transition from the garage to the hotel. Our room was nice and fairly large, but the bathroom is quite small. Again, a product of being an older hotel.
We checked in and got changed for an event at the Orpheum, which was an easy 5 block (or so) walk. On leaving, we discovered our door wouldn't latch shut. We were a little disturbed to learn it wasn't shut while we were changing either. After playing with it for awhile, we discovered that significant downward pressure on the handle would cause it to click shut.
The pop machine on our floor didn't work, so rather than pay $2 at the machine, I went downstairs and paid $2.50 at the front desk. The choices were extremely limited.
Breakfast buffet the next morning was good. Being a Sunday morning at around 7:45, the crowd was very light. The attendant was very nice and helpful.
I've enjoyed this property since back when it was a Red Lion. It goes through cycles of getting run down, them getting renovated. It seems to be on the upslope right now, but has inherent disadvantages that cannot be overcome. If you just want to generally be downtown, there are better choices.
