“Outstanding museum in old train station”
Reviewed November 22, 2012

The entrance to the museum is the restored lobby of the old train station. Wonderful exhibits trace the history of omaha...Warren Buffett's family grocery store, the World Fair, historic films, great traveling exhibits. This museum is part of the Smithsonian organization..so the traveling exhibits are spectacular. There is a fun old fashioned soda fountain where you can get an ice cream float. Great gift shop. Especially recommend visiting during Christmas season...the huge Christmas tree in the lobby (Tree at Union Station is usually two+stories tall) and special exhibits and events are wonderful and have become part of our family traditions.

“Beautiful art deco building housing fascinating railway exhibits”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

Inside the Union Station building is a beautiful art deco booking hall with wonderful lights original fixtures and fittings. The hall has the original ticket windows and seats. And amongst them are "passengers" being seen off or met by "friends". On the lower level is an interesting story through Omaha history, well told and illustrated and following themes of broader interest than just to Omaha itself. And then the rail cars, a real highlight to stroll through and sit in and get the feel of what it was like to travel across the continent by rail. And it reminded us as well of films like Some Like It Hot. An interesting couple of hours in a fine building.

“A treasure.”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

This is an incredible trip back into a time long gone. The museum is an old train station and they have made great effort to restore the facility to its original splendor. There are wonderful exhibits of Omaha and its history, as well as temporary exhibits - we happened to see an presentation on the American Soldier. That was expertly and superbly done. The old soda fountain is functional and not to be missed. Fun place for an afternoon.

“Great place for families!”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

We get a family membership here 'cause there is always something new to see. Not only do they have their travelling exhibits, but it seems like I always learn something new from the regular ones every time we go. The kids love the trains as well, and the old fashioned diner has great food and candy. :)
