My son and his wife live in Dundee. We enjoy eating at it's many fine establishments. Avoli Osteria's Italian cuisine was a new high point for the four of us (plus one - our Granddaughter) to experience.
The entire meal, from our greeting, the superior appetizers (especially the fresh cut thinly sliced cured meats) and the wine, to our entrees, exceeded expectations. Really the only thing that was not four star was the espresso served with our decadent desserts.
Avoli Osteria is an establishment with higher price points but it's fare lives up to the ticket.

Avoli Osteria replaces (overtaking some unsuccessful other attempts at this location) the once successful Travatto's. This is not your father's Italian restaurant. Rather than a salad (antipasti, etc) and a main course, Avoli Osteria features a stepwise dining experience which proceeds from antipasti, to primi, to secondi. This is an enjoyable journey with excellently prepared entree's. Four of us ordered antipasti individually and then shared two dishes of primi and one dish of secondi. A very interesting and different way to dine. The antipasti, soup of the day and butter lettuce and arugula were excellent as were the primi selections. The secondi left much to be desired, although tasty and ample, rather tough which was unexpected given the price. Our wine, selected from the $30 menu was a very nice low tanin Italian red. Our enthusiasm for a return visit is tempered by the rather high prices, e.g. $9 for the soup and $11 for the lettuce salad. Our server, Adam, was attentive, helpful and professional. The atmosphere is lively although somewhat noisy reflecting the concrete floor and the number of diners. It is nice to see that this excellent Dundee location is revitalized with an Italian restaurant as it had been in the past. The clear difference is, for want of a better expression, getting what you are paying for as Avoli Osteria borders on pretentiousness.

In this location's most recent reincarnation, quality, authentic Italian food far beyond the usual red sauce and meatballs has found a home. Risotto, gnocchi, carbonara, everything we tried was delicious.
