Whether you're passing through Omaha, visiting Omaha for a purpose, or a long-time resident, the Henry Doorly Zoo is a place that you just visit for the heck of it. It's very convenient to get to off I-80. It is a great place for families, couples, etc.

On our most recent visit, there was a stingray exhibit at the zoo, where you could get up close and personal with them. They have a sky ride and a really nice train that goes around the zoo. Their aquarium is one of the better ones outside Monterey that I've been to, and the Desert Dome is also fantastic. They are also in the middle of constructing an African safari area that will add more real estate and animals to the zoo. There's also an IMAX theater at the zoo.

If there's anything negative to say, I would add that the Lied Jungle could use improvements in the gravel walkways on its bottom level, and, as in most tourist attractions, the food and gift shop merchandise is a little pricey.

Another good thing is that the zoo is open year-round, so you can go in the dead of winter, to the indoor exhibits, of course.

Thank oscarrific

This zoo has several unusual features to get you around, a road train ride and an overhead ski chair lift.

I think I most enjoyed the Gorilla section and particularly the Penguin area and aquarium.

The emperor penguins along with other penguins.were situated in an icy bleak surroundings much like you see on documentaries on penguins. It was fascinating watching these wonderful creatures just standing with beaks pointing upwards and the smaller penguins jumping through a "hole in the ice" swimming at high speed in the glass sided water filled tank and then popping up through the hole again.

The aqarium hosted a range of different jelly fish which were fascinating to watch.

there is a lot to see in this zoo which is spread over quite an area so be prepared to do some walking.

All in all though a zoo which is well worth visiting.

Where else can you go and have a picnic with prairie dogs. The exhibits are wonderful.Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom Pavilion is a experience and loved it. The apes have a good enclosure and shuttle helps you get around.

Saw so many animals we do not normally see in other zoos: aardvarks, naked mole rats, etc. Loved the NOCTURNAL section and the aquarium, the jungle and desert sections in the bioderm, and much more. Both my teenage son and I were very impressed! I absolutely love zoos and this is the best one I've ever seen. We stayed most of the day.

We live in Fort Worth which has a top-ranked zoo, but the Doorly Zoo is even better. I loved the natural habitats for the animals, and the prairie dogs running free throughout the zoo are a huge plus, as are the peacocks and other birds. If you go in the summer, get passes for the train or shuttle-- there are a lot of hills, and it is VERY hot and humid.
