This zoo is starting to feel a bit run-down. Many of the animals were not out over Memorial Day weekend. They nickel and dime you for the train, carousel, and skyfari, and extra exhibits. Basically, with those rides included the cost was about $30 per adult. Not a great value. The butterfly house was pretty cool for the kids. Can't say this is among my favorite zoos.

If you love zoos, Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo, located just off I-80, will blow you away! It has been repeatedly rats one of the world's best zoos, and that is saying quite a lot.
In good weather the zoo can take most of a day to completely work your way through. But even if you only have a few hours, or if the weather is cold or wet, you can see quite a lot, as many of the largest attractions are indoors, and clustered near the main entrance. The Lied Jungle is massive, and has few barriers separating you from the animals. The Desert Dome and Kingdoms of the Night are definite "Must See's", as is the newly expanded aquarium and the newer butterfly building. There is also an IMAX theatre on site.
Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the overall zoo is rather hilly. A train and trams, plus the Skyfari ski type lift are always options for getting to further points without doing a lot of walking.
One of my favorite areas is the Garden of the Senses, which is actually more of an arboretum. It is a quiet and relaxing area, with lots of seating.

So much to see. Plan for all day and wear comfortable shoes. The Lied Jungle and Shedd Aquarium thrilled the kids and there were so many different animals and several of each. This is one of the better zoos and have been to several other zoos. Lots of shady area to eat your lunch and we had brought our own sack lunches. They have a cafe and a snack bar, but brought our own to keep costs down. Kids loved the monkeys/gorillas too!

In the month of May I have gone to the zoo twice. Once with my 3 year old and once with my classroom students. Both times all children were entertained and loved all they saw! Many animals to see, those both common and uncommon to the United States. Definantly worth going to at least once! More if you are able to!

We wish we would have arrived earlier and was able to stay later. So much to see, make sure you have on comfortable walking shoes.
