My two sisters and I took a mini road trip to Lava Beds National Monument and were delighted at our one night stay at Winema Lodge. If we would have known what to expect ahead of time, we would have made plans to stay longer. As noted in other reviews it is not a deluxe motel by any means but it was clean and comfortable. What made it a great experience were the owners, Vera and Al and the pleasant atmosphere - hanging out in the main room, eating Vera's cooking and just generally an at home feeling. We've passed the word to the rest of our family and I'm sure some of them will be going there in the near future

My wife, 18-month-old, and I stayed at Winema Lodge while visiting Lava Beds National Monument and Tule Lake. The rooms themselves are spartan but functional. The real reasons to stay are the excellent common room (complete with pool table, card table, lots of games, etc.) and the wonderful hospitality of the owners. My 18-month-old enjoyed playing fetch with Anne, the owner's dog. Dinner was tasty home-style cooking. Imagine that your nice grandma who lives in the country bought a lodge and ran it. Well, that's what this place is.

There aren't many lodging choices near Lava Beds Nat'l Park, but you won't go wrong staying at Winema Lodge. As the other reviewer said, it's spartan but clean and comfortable.

If you ask ahead, Verna, the owner, will prepare dinner for you. Just like lodging choices, dining choices are limited in this area so we opted to include dinner. My husband and I were the only guests the night we stayed. The food was great and abundant. Verna and her husband chatted with us as we ate sharing facts about local history and the area's geology.

A light breakfast with great coffee was also included.

Just returned from a visit to northern California, including Lava Beds National Monument, located near Tulelake, California. We stayed for just one night at Winema Lodge in Tulelake - 4th of July, but I wish it had been more. This is a hunting lodge (mid- October through mid-January, according to one of our hosts), but is also frequented by bird watchers, school groups, and visitors to Lava Beds National Monument (it is located directly between two national wildlife refuges, about a 10-minute drive from Lava Beds National Monument, less than two hours from the Mt. Shasta area, and only minutes from the Oregon border and the town of Merrill, Oregon) . The accommodations include a handful of motel-style rooms located in a separate building next to the lodge itself, as well as some rooms within the lodge with shared bathroom/showers. While the accommodations are no-frills, they are clean and comfortable. The "living room" of the lodge is what really wowed us, complete with fireplace, big-screen tv and couches, pool table, card/game table, board games, etc. - a very warm and homey feel. We played games, brought in dinner and drinks, and chatted with our hosts and other guests. We were even able to watch the Tulelake fireworks in the distance from the outdoor dining/sitting area in the yard of the lodge. Our hosts also provided a complimentary continental breakfast in the morning. A couple of friendly pets on the property add to its charm. I can't wait to visit again!!!
