liked the menu for day time but the place is only open one or two evenings in the week as the route to the restaurent is a little dangerous !!.

No; I'm sorry. 3.90 euros for a so-called "grand creme", and for a weak and insipid coffee at that, served in a standard size cup, is beyond the pale. Yes, one should look at menu prices before ordering but asking for a morning coffee doesn't normally require due diligence. Okay, they command a choice spot right next to both the Vanoise Express and the Peisey chair, but they abuse their privileged position (labelled 'Malcot' outside). An expression of surprise by me (in French) to the waitress merely returned a half hearted Gallic shrug from her. Okay. They got me once. Only. You are warned.

We are owners of an appartment in Arollaie just along and opposite the Solan and we feel we must comment on our latest visit early April 2010.

We have been coming to this area for 6 or 7 years and we frequent the Solan and many other local eateries. Two years ago the Vanoise Express was closed for one season and it must have affected the Solans takings for the one season so badly that they have made major alterations to the Menu to recoup costs, for example they will not serve Pizzas in the evening which they used to do, now just take-away, the Menu is Al a cart and also set menus which unless you are prepared to pay over 40 euros per head is extremely basic.
Examples on the 20 euro menu are (diots) local sausages which you would not feed to your dog, unless you hated him !!.
If you take the Al a cart option you would expect to pay 10 euro for starters, (limited chioce) around 14-26 euros for your main and 6-8 euros for desert.
The last visit in April we booked a table 19.00 hrs arrived on time, were guided to our table and then totally ignored for ten/fifteen minutes, which gave us time to view the Menu and then leave promptly.
The lady owner has a shitsu dog which obviously sleeps on the floor of the premises and the odour from the mut hangs in the air, (not very nice).
During the day, for a drink and a snack I can see the charm the Solan emits , but when the sun goes down BEWARE.

I have never written a report like this before , I promise.

Other choices for enjoyable meals would be The Vache , or the Vanoise Hotel or may be for a special meal le Bergerie de Raphael.
