“Your House In Provence”
Reviewed June 30, 2010

From the moment we arrived until the moment we departed, Frederic and his family treated us like we were at home at Maison Sur La Sorgue. And what a home it was! Boasting a fantastic location in the center of town, Isle Sur La Sorgue is a great base for touring Provence. The markets and restaurants make for a good retreat after a day of touring the Luberon, the Rhone Valley wine towns, and Avignon. Even better, La Maison is at once luxe, cozy, and modern. You'll sleep well, awaken to the sound of bells, enjoy the morning breakfast, and hear Frederic's great instructions for how to spend your days of leisure. What can be bad?!?

This 18th century fully renovated hotel has an ambience of warmth and relaxation. You feel as though you are staying at a friends house rather than a hotel. Frederick welcomes you with a relaxing drink and nothing is too much trouble. Anything he can do to make your stay more enjoyable he will do - thankyou Frederick! The attic room is spacious with it's multi level rooms and whilst the balcony doesn't have a great view, its a great place to soak up the sun. I highly recommend this place to stay to soak up the atmostphere and culture of L'Isle sur la Sorgue - an absolute picturesque gem of a place!! Breakfast was fantastic but wouldn't recommend dinner as its quite basic.

Sue and I loved our 2 day stay at Maison sur la sorgue. We appreciated the friendly welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. Frederic and his partner gave us great advice for dinner and lunch, carried the bags, parked the car, cooked a lovely breakfast and even organised a visit to L'occitane factory.. We felt like we were staying in a something between a 5 star hotel, a friends house and a private apartment (the only thing missing a private kitchen). We stayed in the Attic room and we loved it. The shower hose was a bit tricky for us but we enjoyed the bath. We stayed on a Saturday night so we/re able to enjoy the Sunday market. A great stay. Highly Recommended

That's not to suggest that the markets and shops don't have their own amazing finds. It's just that so much care and attention is put into the details of La Maison sur la Sorgue that half the bliss of staying there is taking a moment to appreciate every bit of what surrounds you.

Naturally, that includes the requisite fine bed linens and thoughtful toiletries. As well as the inventive breakfasts served each morning in the kitchen and outdoor garden.

The morning meals themselves were four course affairs -- fresh croissants, pastries, local fruits. Not to mention Frederic's strange magic with a skillet, some eggs and a handful of fresh herbs. Makes for a perfect prelude to wandering the antiques market.

My wife and I are Americans living in London and made this a brief three-day weekend visit, as it was only a total of six hours door to door via very relaxed train rides. So this is a perfect weekend retreat for London or Paris residents and would also make a brilliant countryside break for anyone visiting London or Paris and is looking for an easy 2-3 day excursion out of either city. We hired a car and drove up from Marseilles. But if we did it again, we'd simply train to Avignon and take a short taxi ride to L'Isle sur la Sorgue, because once we parked the car on Friday it stayed in the same spot until Monday. There's just no reason for leaving this spot once you arrive.

We stayed in the Room on a Loggia. The combination of the spacious and serene upper room and the private terrace/loggia created a sense of peace that cannot be easily recreated. Upon arrival, Frederic and Marie-Claude welcomed us with a couple of glasses of chilled rose and left us to enjoy the privacy of our room. We took the rose and a couple of books to the daybed out on the terrace with the intent of cracking through a few chapters.

Problem is, there's a beautiful abandoned theatre that sits just on the other side of the gurgling stream separating it from our terrace. It's now home to a soft chorus of cooing doves and pigeons. Add to that, the gentle gurgling of the stream and we were both asleep within minutes.

And that basically became the recipe for three very chill days at Maison sur la Sorgue. Lots of indulgent sleep, a crazy breakfast, some nice recommendations of where to stroll and where to find a good lunch. Back to the loggia for a day nap. An afternoon stroll to check out the waterwheels and boutiques, topped off with yet another unholy meal at a lovely restaurant booked for you by Frederic.

I'll simply finish by saying that I've been a Trip Advisor voyeur for about six years now and have taken no less than 20 fabulous holidays thanks to the recommendations of those who took the time to share their experiences with the rest of us. This is my very first posting and it goes without saying that it's due in large part to the extraordinary setting that is La Maison sur la Sorgue.

We spent 3 nights at La Maison sur la Sourge mid-September, travelling with one set of parents. It was a fantastic experience. The property is as nice, if not nicer, than the website depicts and the town is absolutely lovely. Frédéric is a generous and accomodating host that was able to give us many, many suggestions for what to do and what to eat. We had a really fantastic time.

L'ile sur La Sorgue is a magical place and staying in the centre of this historic town in a tastefully renovated boutique hotel was a great idea. We booked on the 'net and emails from Frederic were friendly and the site for the hotel was very user friendly and informative. The house exceeded expectations and they were high given the photos and descriptions. A modest door opened to a tastefully decorated entry and you could see the lovely courtyard garden beyond. Our suite was the shadow suite and among other things we particularly liked the comfortable bed, bathrobes and having our own private terrace. Breakfast was included and like everything here was artistic and served with flair. Frederic and Marie Claude were fabulous hosts- his restaurant suggestions were excellent. They also have a shop so you can buy some of the items you admire using in the hotel.

My husband and I stayed here in June 2008 with our 18-month-old daughter and overall had a lovely experience. The owner, Frederic, is wonderful, offering great restaurant and day trip advice, as well as beautiful olives and a glass of wine by the pool! The rooms are incredibly beautiful. We stayed in the room with the loggia, which was amazing - the perfect place to relax and sip wine and try the wonderful snacks from the region while our daughter napped and slept at night. The location is perfect - right in the center of everything. This is the perfect place for a romantic getaway or sophisticated travelers. Although Frederic was 100% accommodating with our daughter, including a great baby bed and a special seat and place setting at breakfast (breakfast is incredible by the way), I would not recommend this as a place for kids. It's just too darn nice and naturally chill and serene that we felt bad whenever our daughter made any noise. It was our own feeling - not one imposed by the owners or other guests. We look forward to going back here one day on our own, for a great romantic escape. For the quality of the place, the prices were also quite reasonable.
