“A hidden gem!”

A Simple farmhouse turned into a charming, peaceful, well located B&B with a great restaurant. Try shopping at a nearby market and then cooking lunch with Emanuelle. Poppy Salenger is a charming hostess with tremendous taste and full of good ideas. This little gem is worth spending some time at.

My husband, 12 year old son and I stayed here in July 2010 for 4 nights. It was a wonderful base for relaxing and exploring the countryside. We had the Lavender Suite, which was perfect for us. Sitting room with a bed for our son and a separate bedroom and bathroom for us. Breakfast on the terrace was a lovely way to start the day. Poppy was always helpful with advice for what to see and do. We had dinner one night at the hotel, which was fine but nothing exceptional. When I planned our trip I debated staying in one of the bigger towns nearby, but in the end was exceptionally happy that we stayed here.

My husband and I stayed for three nights at Bastide Rose with another couple. We had a lovely stay with breakfast on the terrace and ended up having dinner there all three nights. With Poppy as our hostess and her son Emmanuel in the kitchen there was no need to go anywhere else. One day we went to the market with Emmanuel and bought the makings for lunch which was a leisurely cooking experience! Exploring the area from Le Thor is perfect and Poppy was wonderfully helpful. We would highly recommend La Bastide Rose.

I stayed with friends at La Bastide Rose in their cottage, right beside the stream. The memory of the sound of the stream at night still melts away a moment of stress every time I stop & recall it. The evening meal was incredible and the owners & staff were very gracious & friendly. We'll be back, hopefully soon!

We chose this spot because it is located on a river and has pool and a/c. we have experienced 115 degrees there! so this was nice feature The rooms were spacious and dry not musty at all. A bit noisy as there is raw terracotta tile and the acoustics of the doors opening and closing were a trial. Beds and bedding comfy- showers/bath combos awkward, but that's France....Poppy is an energetic host and busy with guests in and out and those coming to see the small museum. We did not get to dine at Son David's restaurant set up there- sweet with three- six tables in candlelight on the porch daily fresh menu. my boys (14) want to chose their own food from menus and like different food, and besides, at Euro 50 a head, w/out drinks- we found that steep (for us is $75 per head- too much for our family budget for a 5 week trip, and we ate elsewhere . Gorgeous modern sculptures set among rough gardens- a lovely, if slightly unkempt garden area. enjoyed it, only thought expensive for the experience from our travel experience in France. Many nice towns to reach nearby but avoid the traffic and industry around Avignon and Nimes.

Room Tip: courtyard rooms quietr- avoid 1st floor- ask for 3rd if you like quiet.

La Bastide Rose is the absolutely perfect base to explore all the Luberon! Poppy, a former French debutant and wife of Pierre Salinger, is the perfect host. Whether this is your first or fifth time to Provence, Poppy knows the surroundings intimately, which is sure to make your daily wanderings perfect. Her son runs the kitchen and will cook up the best of what he finds in the daily markets and you'll love it. We choose to stay in the cottge because we wanted the extra privacy, but saw many of the rooms and they are all very personal, different and charming. We will return!

We stayed at La Bastide Rose for three nights in September with another couple. Poppy and her son Emmanuel run one of the neatest places we have ever stayed in. If you read any of my other reviews you will see that I don't write reviews except on four or five star properties. This review is easy one. The rooms were large and unique, but just meeting Poppy and Emmanuel and visiting their Kennedy display was worth the stay. One night we took advantage of eating in "Emmanual's kitchen". He has more fun working the diners to the fullest, and that along with a great meal, made the night. Breakfast with Poppy is a trip thru recent history. She also shares a wealth of knowledge about the local area. Put this place on the list of must stays.
