“Breathtaking”

We visited the Hoover Dam during our recent trip to Las Vegas. The drive took less than hour to and from and the dam. We drove and walked across the dam and were able to take some really good pictures. We also purchased some souveniers at the gift shop. I would say that this is a must do while you are in Vegas if you don't mind renting a car.

We did not do the tours which cost extra.

“WOW!”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

Waaay cooler to see in person. A real engineering marvel and to think it was built back in the 1930s before CAD/CAM and computer controls. A real american treasure and only 40 minutes from Las Vegas. Don't pay the $7.00 to park. Drive over the dam and park in the free lots. It is NOT a long walk.

“Impressive in person.”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

Went to Hoover Dam during a recent trip to Las Vegas. Had been here years ago but decided to go back with friends that had never been. Did the power plant tour and then walked across the dam. By the way when you get about half way across you are actually in Arizona and a different time zone. The dam is very impressive when seen in person and the tour is good because you get to see a movie about the building of the dam and go down to the powerplant level. Worth the trip when in the area.

“Wonder of the modern world built in the 30's !”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

I had been to the dam in 2001 not long after 9/11 and it was locked up. My parents had been through it on a tour in the 60's and raved about it. Therefore, we made sure to book a tour upon going to Vegas this time and picked a good one. We paid like $75 each for the bus to pick us up at our hotel and Carmen did a good job as our guide. We got to go right through Boulder City, saw the new bridge, toured inside the dam and finished with going through some high priced candy factory with a cool cactus garden. Finally, the bus dropped us right on the strip instead of taking us back to the Palms.

This should be on every visitors list of to-do's! Not only educational, but overwhelmingly beautiful. The short version of the tour is perfect. The observation deck is a sight to behold and camera's are clicking. Wonderful!
