Hotel Caudron
Ranked #1 of 2 Hotels in Rue
Reviewed August 29, 2011

Booked into this hotel sight unseen as an overnight stopover on our way further south. The hotel is easy to find, and although its own parking is limited, there is plenty of free parking very near. The building has clearly been recently revamped, so all is in good order. The staff are pleasant and welcoming. The dining room was full of locals as well as guests, which is a good sign, but in view of the very limited choice of eateries in Rue, not surprising. The menu and cuisine was simple , correct, and good value. Breakfast at a highish 9 euro was quite comprehensive, and in a way it was reassuring to know that the hotel fire alarm can be triggered by slightly burnt toast in the dining room. Free wifi is available downstairs and in some rooms. Although not in a glamourous location, this is an excellent hotel.

We won some Dover to Calais ferry tickets so looked to do a weekend break for one night in France (Our annual leave from work is limited). We began looking for hotels in Le Touquet and were staggered by the price (as so early in the season). We stumbled upon this hotel on booking.com and it had good reviews on there, and we thought we could remember seeing it and had eating at the restuarant previously...

We arrived at the Caudron restuarant (and auberge) just off the main road, and this isn't the hotel! (Although I think they belong to the same people).
The hotel is situated on the main road in Rue just by the unusual cross road junction, and it looks very inviting from the outside (like a traditional French restuarant & bar).
If you take the immediate turning around the hotel, they have a small courtyard where you can park your car. We parked fine, but if this is full I believe there is a public car park across the road.

Upon check in, no one speaks English but they were extremely helpful and friendly and we were easily understood with my limited French!
At the time of booking I had requested a ground floor room, as my dad who we were travelling with has some health problems and cannot walk up stairs. They showed us to our rooms on the ground floor just round by the restuarant and overlooking the courtyard where we parked.

The rooms are exceptionally clean, with comfy beds and lovely linen decorated and furnished really well. As always in France you only receive one pillow (not a problem as we had brought our own). In the room you have a desk and chair with a flat screen TV with lots of French channels and a small hanging area for your clothes as well as two bed side tables with lamps.
The bathrooms were slightly older, but very clean and had everything you would need, including a hair dryer on the wall. NB - as always the shower was a hand held head over the bath.

We ate that night in the restuarant (which seemed busy with locals and other guests) and the food was great! A good mix of regional cuisine and the standard steak & frites! This isnt haute cuisine, but the food was fantastic - great portions and very reasonable prices. We throughly all enjoyed our meals with no complaints at all and would of eaten their the next night if we were staying longer. (Bit random they have flat screen TVs in the restuarant playing the music channels! Quietly!).

Breakfast is served in a function room just behind the restuarant. This cost 7.50pp and was well worth it - fresh fruit juice, bread, pastries, crossaints, cheese, ham, tea, coffee etc.

We throughly enjoyed our trip here and think it represented excellent value for money,

(We found out that this hotel has recently been taken over and had changed it name in JAn 11, I believe it had been refurbished at the same time. I cannot remember now the original name but it was the name of the two famous aviation brothers).
