The outside of this hotel looks very new & inviting. The inside is another story. The room I had needs serious attention. The coffee pot and/or the multi outlet plug it was attached to was sketchy, as in it turned itself on & off various times. I unplugged it :) The bath faucet leaked and the wallpaper is peeling. The room itself was clean but noisy, being right on 5th Ave. The bed was OK but the comforter had a mystery stain on it. There is no breakfast offered, but there is a cafe across the street. The best part is the front desk staff & the free shuttle and driver.

We only stayed here 1 night before going to Whittier for our Alaska cruise, to be honest we arrived around midnight and left at 8am the next day so we didn't even spend 12 hours.

However for what we paid, it was worth it. We only needed a bed to sleep in and a place to shower and it had both, got up and wandered across the road for breakfast came back and got the shuttle to the Alaska Railroad and that was it.

If I went back i would stay in the same place, not sure I would recommend it for an extended stay but it did the job without issue and was well priced.

The staff, driver and reception, are the best things about this hotel. The shuttle is on their schedule, not yours so budget extra time for this. Checkin was slow because they input all the info from your id. The rooms are smelly and dated. Bathroom is 2 x 5 with sink outside the bathroom. Hotel was very noisy, quiet 5-6 a.m. and then the seagulls start squawking (can't help that). Air con smelled like burning rubber. Booked by a family member based on price. Pay the extra, squish your family into a room at the Sheraton or whatever. This would do for a night for some. Don't stay here if you have allergies. We paid $89/night I think.

Room Tip: Treat yourself to a nice hotel and skip this hostel type experience.

We stayed in the GuestHouse lodge for one night - after booking it over the internet- While there was a shuttle provided from the airport it took almost an hour for us to be collected even though I called when we had collected our bags- The Hotel is looking very tired and carpets needed to be cleaned- No breakfast was provided and front of house service was average - Would only stay here again if we were desperate!

The shuttle driver George is awesome!!! He showed us places to eat on the drive from the airport. Staff was very friendly. Rooms were ok, I've stayed in worse. Beds were comfortable and the hotel was very quiet.

You can also walk to downtown, the mall , museum and food is within 3-4 short blocks.

This hotel has been a Guesthouse for....not that long. It use to be the Days Inn and before that the Howard Johnson's Plaza. It use to be not that great but it has been totally remodeled and now I very much recommend it. Summer time in Anchorage brings hotel rates that soar well over $300 for basic rooms at chain hotels. Even the Motel-6 is $150 in the summer which is pretty much a cruel joke. I choose the Guesthouse because of its perfect downtown location, right across from the Sheraton (advertising $356 rooms) downtown and because of the pictures on the Guesthouse website. I reserved a top floor balcony room and was very pleasantly surprised by the brand new everything. The room itself was HUGE, at least 3x bigger than a traditional room. It included a big new fridge, microwave and coffeemaker, nice big LCD TV, new clean carpet and very comfortable beds with quality bedding. The balcony was great, nice view right down 5th Ave, the main street through downtown Anchorage. Not only was there a desk but also a dining table and two chairs. The bathroom even had a floor to ceiling tinted privacy window looking out across the city, an interesting touch. All this for a pre-paid rate of $140, thats a GREAT deal for Anchorage in the summer, its not just great, it doesn't get any cheaper. I will definitely consider this hotel in the winter too, free parking instantly saves you at least $10 more per day compared to other downtown hotels.

Room Tip: Id go for a balcony room if available. They have a number of rooms to choose from, Id go for the hi...

We got this hotel from a bid on priceline. We stayed here for two nights for a pre-cruise stay in Anchorage. This hotel was walking distance to most everything in downtown Anchorage. Anchorage is a pretty large city so it's a 15 min distance to the airport, but this hotel provides a shuttle. They also gave us a shuttle to the railroad. The only problem we encountered with this was the large amount of people in the lobby waiting to go. They only have one van that can hold a hand full of people, so get in line early. The staff here was among the friendliest staff I've encountered at a hotel. I would go back just for them. The room was a little older, but was kept up well and was clean. It would definitely be a place I would stay again.
