The rooms are what you would expect from a mid-range chain hotel; the breakfast like many others at this type of hotel. No complaints about room or bathroom. Adequate and a good price, but what set it apart was the service and the willingness of the staff to help out. We flew in from Juneau and had a ride to hotel – did not use shuttle. The hotel was conveniently located near the Sunday afternoon flea market, and we were able to walk to the downtown restaurants for meals. At check in, we arranged to be driven to train station for the Golden Dome train to Denali the next morning. Woke up early to find that my husband needed some allergy/sinus medicine before we were off to Denali. We needed to leave by 7:30 for the train. Around 5:30 am, I went downstairs to find a pharmacy I could walk to. Long story short, too far to walk in that time frame and neighborhood there, too sketchy, so they drove me to that 24 hr store. They made sure that they got me back in time to get dressed, have breakfast, check out and make the train with the peace of mind we needed to enjoy the beauty of Alaska. Many thanks!!

We used this hotel for our "home base" while traveling throughout Alaska and stayed 3 nights total during the vacation. It was perfect for our needs. The hotel was clean, staff was great (Keke and Angela went out of their way to make us feel welcome). Hotel stored our luggage during our travels, and did laundry in-between our trips. Easy quick continental breakfast- or you can opt for a full breakfast also. Opens at 5 am- so they got us in and out for our 5:45 AM train departure.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the backside of the hotel away from the train station.

We booked this hotel because it is downtown and has a free shuttle from the airport. We were there at the beginning of the cruise ship season so hotel prices are at their highest and hotel tend to fill. Shuttle had just left when we arrived at the airport so we waited 45 minutes plus for the shuttle to return for us. The shuttle could use replacing as it is getting tired but the driver was pleasant. I believe there were some who didn't get on the shuttle so some were in for a long wait. The lobby was inviting - the desk staff friendly.

First impression as we walked into the room was that the curtains needed replacing - they had needed replacing for some time and replacement would make a huge improvement to the room for little outlay. The room showed signs of its age - bathroom counter was chipped, badly worn and had paint splashes on it definitely time for replacement!

The room was clean - a good size as was the bathroom. The laundry room was near our room and we found it very convenient. We found the bed comfortable and the bed linen adequate if a bit well used.

Breakfast was like a 1000 other hotel buffet breakfasts - adequate, clean, items were kept refilled.

Check-out was a bit early 11:00 and no chance for extention as the hotel was fully booked and many were leaving that day.

Positives - downtown, free shuttle, essentially clean
Negatives - for the price it is badly in need of an upgrade

Would we stay again - Yes but it might not be first choice.

Room Tip: We had a room on second floor and it was quiet

Anchorage Hotels are expensive! The Ramada is a great deal, located just a few blocks from the Anchorage Museum, the visitors center and the middle of town. It is an older hotel that has had a facelift. The rooms are adequate and clean. Staff is excellent. lIt has a shuttle service, which is very handy since the airport is not nearby. Not fancy but affordable. Continental breakfast included. Great value for the money.

We were a little concerned at the quality of the shuttle bus at the airport and our worries were not at all alleviated by the quality of the motel. The bed was small and uncomfortable and the bathroom was tired and tiny. The staff were capable and helpful and did their best to represent their employers. I think for visitors who have flown (actual airtime) almost 20 hours to get there it was not a good start to an Alaskan trip. Our stay was part of a Cosmos package. The fact that Cosmos had such low regard for their customers in placing them in this hotel left a nasty taste in our mouths.

Room Tip: If you are going to travel from Australia to Alaska do yourself a favour and treat yourself to anoth...
