“Friendly, beautiful, comfortable”
Reviewed July 8, 2013 via mobile

I was really impressed with the Captain Cook. The place is beautiful and immaculately maintained. The rooms are large and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Hunter, who checked us in, was particularly helpful. He got us the room we wanted, gave us local advice (including free parking on the street on Sunday!), and booked us a reservation for dinner. Really made a good impression. Thanks!

Dear jasonm1a,

Thank you for staying at The Hotel Captain Cook. We appreciate the great review. It was my pleasure to be able to assist during check in and help start you off with a great stay. I owe it to my management for putting me in a position to succeed. We have great mentors and having the opportunity to learn from them daily has really helped with the growth of all our front office employees. Enjoy the Dodgers cause they're are on a tear right now. When are we going to get a Pro Team??? Oh well, the Pilots and the Bucs rock (semi pro ball here). Take care!

There are great shops and restaurants in the hotel. It is located conveniently to the Saturday market fair and to many great restaurants and shops. The rooms are very nice with comfortable beds and handsome furnishings. There is lots of counter space in the bathroom. The rooms were quiet and I could get a good night's sleep. The breakfast restaurant was very crowded but we were able to get a table after a short wait. Although our waitress had a lot of tables and people to wait on, we still had pretty good service. Food was good. The lobby has some beautiful shops with incredible merchandise. Great for browsing or getting that souvenier to take home. There are plenty of comfortable seating areas in the lobby and the staff are very helpful about getting your directions to places of interest. We enjoyed a short walk to the open air market on Saturday with tons of booths with Alaskan artifacts, art work, food, and clothing. I would recommend this hotel highly. Glad we stayed there.

Dear Mary H,

Thank you for staying at The Hotel Captain Cook. We truly appreciate the fantastic review. If you're in the service industry then you know what I'm about to say. If you'e not then I hope this sheds some light into our day to day. Whenever we receive feedback, comments, reviews, it's inspiring. They can be good or bad but if you're the type of business that employs associates to look at both sides and finds ways to continue to produce the positives and correct the negatives then the scale is ever evolving towards improving the overall guest experience. I thank you for illustrating the Hotel so well and look forward to seeing you in the future.

We were with a land/cruise tour of Alaska. We stayed here our first night.
The hotel was very clean and beautifully decorated. I would recommend it highly.
The hotel was centrally located and easy to find.

Anchorage is a lot like any underplanned ugly city and although we are in a Suite on the 14th floor of Bldg 3, the view is depressing.

On the plus side, the Crows Nest restaurant on the 20th floor is definitely Five Stars. Try It. I had elk, and Kelly had King Crab Legs ($52).

Rooms are OK but when we saw the Aleyska Resort on out 1st day exploring, we realized we should have stayed there instead for our cruise today to Vancouver on NCL--Sun.

At $347 / nite for this, it's way overpriced and not a value...hence 4 stars.

Dear CaptainTar,

Thank you for staying at The Hotel Captain Cook. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with our online family. The view from the 14th floor of the Chugach Mountain range is a guest favorite, sorry you didn't enjoy it. The Crow's Nest rocks: beautiful views, great service, and authentic Alaskan cuisine make it a great place to spend an evening treating yourself. Really nice to see that the restaurant and staff made it a memorable visit. Until next time, take care!

Sincerely,

The Captain Cook is a very well kept facility with excellent staff. While the rooms and furnishings might be a bit dated, it is still tasteful and "Alaskan" in nature. The locations is right downtown and walking distance from museums, walking tours, parks, dining, and other attractions.

The hotel was booked for us by our cruise company as part of the pre-cruise package, and caters efficiently for this market. The logistics of processing hundreds of cruise passengers and their luggage are complex and were handled well. The hotel itself is a fairly standard large American one with all the facilities one would expect. Air conditioning has recently been installed, which was just as well, as when we were there, Anchorage was experiencing and unprecedented 90 degree heatwave.

Bring the northern frontier down to the other forty eight states. Remarkable service, rooms and a dining room that also serves a pizza. We had an italian meal that was drop dead for. The cook obviously likes his work. I have had a similar meal in New York, but this meal edged out NYC. A real bargain and a place to eat and stay.
