“Perfect Place to Stay”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Our stay at the Captain Cook in downtown Anchorage was just what we wanted and more. We have stayed her multiple times and are always please to have chosen this hotel. Our room this time, on the 15th floor overlooking the Chugach Mountains, was wonderful. The King bed was comfortable, everything worked properly and was very clean. All the staff was helpful and friendly. Housekeeping even found items we accidentally left in our room and kept them for us until we could return to retrieve them. This hotel has a great location for shopping, attending theater events, and walking along the inlet.

Room Tip: I prefer floors near the top as they offer the best views.

Dear Wendy R,

Thank you for staying at The Hotel Captain Cook. We appreciate your review and we're pleased to see you enjoyed your stay. Our easterly facing rooms have given our guests amazing views of the Chugach Mt. Range this winter. What a blessing to have such a great Housekeeping Team. Finding personal, precious valuables, and providing the ability to keep them safe and secure until you were able to retrieve them was very rewarding to see. The future is bright. The Hotel Captain Cook and our Staff look forward to never settling for average and push strongly ahead to find more ways to create excellent guest experiences for all.

Sincerely,
Hunter R. W. Edelen

I have stayed at the Captain Cook for many years. The hotel facility and service has always been exemplary. The staff are considerate, dedicated, and always easy to access. The rooms are quiet and the view of Anchorage is spectacular. The restaurants and room service allow visitors options from simple to splendid fare. After a busy day or as an early morning routine, the workout and relaxation areas offer multiple opportunities and equipment to include swimming, spa and massage availability. I would recommend the Hotel Captain Cook not only for business but also for the enjoyment of the downtown area, the Performing Arts Center, shopping, strolling and sightseeing.

Room Tip: Each of the three towers allows for views of the city lights of Anchorage, the distant mountains, Co...

Dear 99615,

Thank you for staying at The Hotel Captain Cook. It's so nice to see you had a great stay and we appreciate you sharing your experience with our TripAdvisor family. We are constantly updating the Hotel and looking for more ways to provide nicer and more relaxing accommodations. The Athletic Clubs receive rave reviews from our guests. They provide a sanctuary for the both the body and mind to recover from either lengthy travel or a tiresome work day. Our restaurants carry only the freshest our Alaskan fisheries have to offer. Summer is almost here and we can't wait to share a slice of Alaska with all our future guests.

We so enjoyed our visit at The Hotel Captain Cook! The Staff exceeded every expectation...they were all wonderful, efficient, attentive, angels one and all! The Hotel itself was pristinely clean, food and all services excellent! We highly recommend this special spot and the great Staff!

Room Tip: You can choose to have a City view or a view of Cook Inlet...both are amazing!

Didn't have the "best place to stay in Alaska experience". Showed up on the late flight, hotel is less than accommodating or even cordial for this time of the day. Could not get anything to eat, drink or otherwise unwind. I as well as several others showing from this flight were quite disappointed, and even more so with the lack of concern of our needs.
The Gym - no matter how wonderful you make the "spa" - additional cost to use it is demeaning. Include it in your price if you must.
Now, for the real kicker! One of their cleaning staff obviously dropped my MacBook and caused physical damage and they will not accept any liability for this. REASON? - I didn't report the damage until after I left the hotel.
Given the lack of care and concern for the patrons' well being, pricing, and not owning up to a claim... I would not recommend staying there and will seek another place to stay in the future.
They are a private hotel with no points available to any of the clubs!!!

Room Tip: Corner rooms are nice on the upper floors. But, the water pressure will barely rinse your hair!

Dear Chad S,

We want to Thank you for staying at Hotel Captain Cook. Per an email you sent to us directly you said the conference was great and the accommodations tremendous, yet your comments on TripAdvisor don’t support this. We want to respond to your claim that our staff damaged your laptop. In your direct email to us, you said it happened on the second day (you were here 4 days) but you did not take time to report it. You left the Hotel and reported it once you reached your destination. This doesn't allow us the proper opportunity to investigate or respond in a timely fashion. We hold our staff to high standards and based on the investigation that we provided you, it was determined that we did not damage your laptop and cannot accept responsibility or be held liable.

Your original email held the Hotel in high regards. We are disappointed that you have changed your opinion about our Hotel based on the outcome of the claim.

We hope you will one day return to our Hotel where we have tremendous accommodations and an excellent staff.

Very Respectively,
Zach Dunlap

We try to spend one weekend each winter at the Captain Cook, usually combined with a show at the Performing Arts Center, and have never been dissappointed.
